Further to my early December post The clipper yachts left at 1300 WST today
they made a majestic sight on Champion Bay along with a P&O cruise ship anchored in the Bay.
The boats arrived 2 days late in 35 to 40 knots to a great Geraldton welcome 8 boats finished between 1210 and 2200 hrs the closest ever. The yacht club provided a BBQ and couple of beers for all boats even the 2 late comers Hull and Humber finished at 0100 and the crews have never received a welcome like it and to have a beer and BBQ at 0100 on a Saturday night blew them away .Geraldton has turned on the hospiality way beyond the crews wildest dreams they are estatic there were more offer of Xmas lunch than takers. They will remember there stopover in Gero so the money put in by council and others will be rewarded.
There are 10 68 ft very powerful glass yachts crewed by 30/to 40 different nationalities all paying and 45% with no sailing experience and from all comments I,ve heard they will be back in 2 years.
So all you vanners doing the lap put Gero on your list
