Hello all,
Putting the final touches to our 2010 family holiday through SA, QLD, NSW, ACT then back to SA.

Our preliminary itinerary has us arriving in Bathurst on the 13th of October. A quick check of local events etc has revealed that this is only 3 days after the Hardie Ferodo or what ever it's called these days.

Having never been to Bathurst or the race for that matter, does anyone know how soon the crowds clear out and is 3 days sufficient time for the town to return to "normal".

Cheers...
Fab.

Place should be pretty much deserted by then. Most in attendance have to return home and to work.

Seeing I live in Bathurst I can tell you that 3 days after the race it will be fairly well back to "normal". There would be just a few who would stay on for a couple of days. As it is not a long weekend most people do head off early, as in the Monday and Tuesday after the race.
We have a population of close to 40,000 so the town can be quite busy at any time.I know I am biased but it is a nice city to live in.
Unfortunately our Tourist Office are not the best at promoting the area but they do have stuff for you to look at if that is what you are after.
Enjoy your stay and I have a retail store in town and you are welcome to call in and have a cold beer when you are here. I don't want to promote my store here and get in to trouble from the Mod Squad.

G'day Bigfella,

I have sent an email so as not to take over this thread.

Thanks

Cheers Big Fella...great info to have. I'm so glad because there are a few things we want to see while in Bathurst and staying even at Orange was not an option for us.

Will look you up when we get closer. Trip is not until Sept/Oct...will be in Bathurst on the 13th all going well.

Don't suppose you could be so kind as to recommend a caravan park to us. I see there are at least two in town. We would be after cabin accomodation.
Cheers...
Fab.

Fab

Mate, there is only one caravan park in Bathurst which is about 4 Kms out of town on the road to Sydney. They do have cabins I think. Being a local you don't tend to check these things out.
I would be interested where there is a listing of 2 caravan parks. I have lived here for over 50 years and there has only ever been one. It was right in town and closed years ago and the one on the Sydney Road was opened.
Sept/Oct will be here before you know it. It is usually quite a nice time here around then. Not to hot and not to cold. We can get 4 seasons in one day as you would see if you have watched the car race at all over the years.
Cheers

Yep...my mistake. The two caravan parks I was thinking of were at Orange...must of got confussed when I was looking at Orange as an alternative to Bathurst.

Just checked and noticed that the one at Bathurst is a Big 4 as well. Brilliant news. Will definitley be there. We'll be in the Silver Captiva with SA plates on it, but I'll be sure to look you up.

Thanks again Mr. Bigfella.

Hey Fab, We stayed in Bathurst at the caravan park a couple of years ago - at the start of race week - was quite a nice park but hot and windy when we re there as it's up quite high. We're planning on going back as a family when we have more time. Have also visited for the race a few times and can say with certainty that most people have gone by the Monday night - they start to pull out straight after the race.

Cheers, Jeff
