How do I make my notebook into a moving map display GPS.
Hi there Guys and Gals.
I have been led to believe that I am able to use my Notebook as A moving map display GPS. IS this correct? If so what do I need to buy to make it all work.
Cheers

- You will need a GPS and suitable software such as Oziexplorer. Your notebook will need to be able to be connected to the GPS, generally through the serial port. Do a search on this
forum and you will find lots of info.
You will also need to consider a power source for your notebook as you travel.
Oziexplorer can be purchased through the exploreoz
shop as can GPS's.
Good luck Gary

And iff like
mine, your Notebook does not have a serial port you can buy the correct connector to USB from Jaycar.

dolfn,
If your GPS can find Lat/Long and UTM it should be able to transpose the info to the Notebook. The GPS has to have a cable connector port, of course. I personally do not find the need for a moving map. I use my GPS, Notebook and Oziexplorer to pin point positions and rely on bush sense for the rest. Have only worked out about 10% of the capabilties of the soft ware.....Don't forget, you need to load digital maps into your Notebook as the GPS will only give you a basic reading from its software.
Cheers,
Willie
