It's finds like this that gives me satisfaction, I was going through the AWM site searching for photo's of
Adelaide River, (1000s of them) and found this photo, knowing exactly where it was taken I decided to go for a drive, about 4 Klms from
home and see if the old tree was still there, boy did I get a surprise when I got
home and went through the photo's .

We did a similar thing at
Annandale station
ruins northwest of
Birdsville in 2007.
C T Madigan had a picture of the station taken in 1939 when he crossed the northern simpson and as we had a copy of his book with us we could work out exactly where the photo was taken from and there were about 4 trees still exactly as they were in 1939.

Nice bit of detective work there Doug. Alot of satifaction to be had finding historic sites from old photo's, journals & maps rather than just following a trip note or GPS coordinate.
Cheers Craig............

Nice one Doug. There is a lot of history hidden amongst the zamia palms of the
Adelaide River area

Amazing how the bush regenerates, but also reminds you how long it takes for things to grow.
