hey just wondering what type of electric i should get i thought about getting a 40lb transom mount but mates reckon i should get bow mount so i was wondering which would better for me. i just want to get it to go around my local river luring for barra. i don't want a out board because ill have to have 2 people in it all the time. i'm 15 so i don't have a lot of money either.
thanks

If you are trolling then a transom mount is preferred, If you do casting lures then a bow mount is preferred.

Transom mount is cheaper, but can be a pain to use when standing up flicking - constantly reaching over rear thwart to adjust. I started with this set up (40 lb). OK, but not ideal.
Bow mount is more expensive, but much better. Foot control (via wire or remote) means you can steer and adjust speed while standing and flicking. A 55 lb bow mount will work very
well on a 12 footer.
Why will you need 2 people with an outboard? Regulations re age?
An electric, while much quieter, is much slower. You will cover a lot less water with electric only and you need to be very conscious of
battery power. Running flat out, the motor draws a lot of power. You need to be sure you have enough power to get hoe, and running lead acid batteries flat before recharging kills them quick. Best batteries for this purpose are AGMs, which are not cheap.
I suspect you would get a reasonable 9.9 HP or ever 15 HP outboard for around the same price as (more likely less than) a bow mount, good battery and charger.
In an ideal world, you have both. Outboard to cover distances, elec for quiet movement and boat control while fishing.

what about a 2 or 4hp petrol then. You could also try running it in the pin hole closest to the boat which will keep the nose down. Be aware the nose will come up before it gets on the plane. Once on the planer the nose will come down. Also if you have a remote tank stick it up the front with your gear.
with electrics a decent battery will cost you $300.

hey thanks for all the advice guys i'm pretty sure one of dads mates had 3.3hp for his punt so i might ask him to try it out, but he uses transom electric now so ill see what he thinks is better.
