Hi All, Happy New Year.
Somewhere on the forum I read about a low bridge to avoid when approaching the Melbourne dock to load your car/ caravan onto the Spirit of Tasmania ferry. Could someone please let me know the name of the street this bridge is in so I don't get caught and have to try and back out of it with the caravan. We're not from Melbourne, so we would be relying on our Garmin GPS, which may decide to take us under this bridge.
thanks
Graham and Michele

The bridge is in York Street South Melbourne, and depending where you are coming from you really should not be anywhere near it - you need to get to Beach Road, Port Melbourne I think it is actually Beaconsfield Parade - it goes from St Kilda to Port Melbourne -

It's more likely to be the one in Montague Street, South Melburne.

It has caused many a vehicle to come unstuck despite now having sensors which activate flashing red strobe lights.

We stayed at what I believe to be the closest CP to the dock and our GPS had us going straight to the bridge as the quickest way to get to the dock. Turned off the road and the GPS kept trying to get me back there.

Turned off the GPS and went south for a few blocks and then it (GPS) sorted out another way. Not nice for someone not into heavy traffic with a large van behind the Cruiser.

Next time in late Feb will put in 2 GPS points. 1, out of the way of the bridge and 2, the dock.

Did your GPS tell you to "turn left and board ferry"? :-) We were a few hours early and I think ferry hadn't even arrived yet...

If your GPS has it, Set the transport mode to Truck / Lorrie and it should avoid low bridges.
