Thread 74472 ....why has it been archived even though there are recent additions

This Thread has been Archived
As the title says, thread 74472 (regarding weight issues of 4x4s) has now been "Archived".

This means it cannot be added to by any persons wishing to add their thoughts to this growing, serious issue that concerns many of us on this forum.

It will now be necessary to add any further info by starting a new thread with a similar title and referring to the previous threads.....which includes 74448.

I'm guessing that thread # 74472 (started by Troll81) was started because of the fact that the previous thread on this topic (#74448) had also been archived.

Is it just a case that threads automatically become archived after 1 month, regardless of whether people are still contributing????

If so, (and I suspect this is the case as 74472 was commenced on 17/12/2009), then I strongly suggest the Exploroz brain's trust seriously review that policy, please.

Hell, I'm also on the 4WD Action Forum and am a contributing member to a thread there that has been running for about 3 years or more (relating to 6.5 Chev V8 diesel engines). It is such a wealth of information to be able to source in one place, even it does require wading through pages and pages of updates; that's still better than trying to jump from one post/thread to another.

Your correct with the time assumption and I agree about keeping it alive.

I had it listed on thread watch to ensure I didn't miss any replies as I also felt it was an excellent thread and very pertinent to me as well as so many of us on here.

Roachie,

What a great idea - I will implement this today and will pull the thread out of the archive so that you can continue to contribute. It may take a while for me to adjust the code of the system to support this but I will make this happen. I will change the system to archive threads that have had no updates for 4 weeks. Good one. Will advise when done.

OK job done it was actually very simple from a system perspective. So now threads will archive only if no updates are recorded for 1 month.

I have reverted all archived threads that have had updates in the last month and 39 threads were restored to active including the thread in question.

Thanks for the idea Roachie it was a really good suggestion.

This thread reminds me of Austin Powers and "Fat Bastard" LOL. May be we refer to overweight "trucks" as "fat bastards" and in regards to Roachie's truck for example as that fat bastard Roachie?? He looks like he's carrying a few extra kilos eh!!! A great suggestion to a relevant issue; good on you Roachie and thanks David. Cheers

Excellent suggestion Roachie - "date of last reply" is more appropriate indicator of live/dead threads that "date thread was posted". Do you get a discount on your membership for a great contribution like that, or a windscreen sticker?! :-)
