Kim and Damn Dog
The poor old hat is going to God. Or at least I thought that was the way it was going to be.
I’ve had many Akubra hats over the years and the bunny fur has done me
well.
The hat I now have looks like the upside belly of a shaggy dog.
So we toddled off to the
shop today with great expectations. That is until I was told the price. Nobody mentioned that rabbit’s fir is worth diamond dust!
If I had known this many years ago, the thousands of pegged skins would have been put into a bank vault.
A delightful girl (in the
shop) tried to turn me into a good looking bloke with an Akubra, but sadly, she walked away muttering; nothin’ can be done to improve that noggin!
So as I write, I’m sitting with the knife and repairing the old girl with silver Gaffa tape for the another season.
Regards
Kim

What price were you given? I have always thought Akubras were very
well priced, for what they give in return.

Yes your right mate. But if you purchased something for $25 two decades ago, then walk in a
shop and have to pay $110 you feel a bit like a dinosaur.
LOL

I knnow what you mean Kim. I got
mine a while back when they were selling for around $50 (probably only a decade ago). But I haven't seen one for less than $120 for a while now (looks like you found a good deal there! LOL)

Put a couple of safety pins on the brim of that one & it would suit Chad
Morgan! LOL.
And to you Kim, I know how you feel mate, it's the same as paying three dollars for a two bob meat pie! The worlds gone mad. AND when you do get around to buying a new "lid" the blasted thing never looks right while ever it has that new look, it's only when they start lookintg like Rockapes pride & joy that they become acceptable to be worn in public. Cheers & happy Bunny hunting.

Gday Kim,
Do you think the price could be a result of calicivirus or just a case of paying for the name?
Any way......don't be such a tight fisted old bugger and
fork out some of those millions your sitting on. We all know if you fell off your pile of cash you would be high enough to break your neck....Hahahahahaha
Cheers

I watched a show the other day on the process of making the US Stetsons cowboy hat. Man, there was some work involved, all by hand. I would assume that the Akubras are made in the same fashion to the same standard. I think that $110 is a good price, considering it will last another 20 years. A normal baseball cap costs about $30, made in china with cheap ass material, and lucky to last 2 years.

And a baseball cap doesn't cover your ears (or stop the rain going down the back of your neck)...

G/Day Kim
I bought my last Akubra in the mid 1980's, at the time I paid $65 for it, I purchased it from Nerang Saddle World on the
Gold Coast, my
Cook couldn't understand that a bloke can't keep them in as new condition, they have to get the worn look and they do tend to get that way if you wear them all the time, any way unbeknownst to me she bought a new one about 12months later, and said it was my going out hat for special occasions and it still looks fairly new with no Character, so thankfully down the track I'll give it some when the Old Hat is passed it's useby date lol lol.
Cheers

Daza, I bought
mine in 1994 when I first came to Aussie.
Paid $12 dollah for it from Kwang Chow's Tourist [sucker] Centre.
It was either that or a plastic hat with corks hanging from it for $15, but that was with a toy koala thrown in.
A quick look down the street told me that the cork hat and koala werent that popular, so went for the 'Akubra'.
He also had a genuine plastic aboriginal boomerang 1 dollah, at that price, I bought 10. Not one of the bloody things came back to me....lol.
After that experience Ive had a chip on my shoulder.
Now Ive worked out a way of getting these people back.
When in a foodhall, I target the chinese stall and have mastered the art of building a pyramid on the plate, feeds me and the missus for 8 dollah....hehehe.
Teach them to mess with this Kiwi.
Cheers......Lionel.

And for the price they charge for a new one these days it hurts to much to beat them up to get them looking civilized and comfortable.
