Hi All
Some months ago I wrote two articles about the “death of our Engel”. 71480 is the first one, can’t seem to find the next one about a month later.
Well, this is part three!!
Our 40 ltr Engel, just over four years old died again the other day but has now had another resurrection! It was making a loud rattle/hum noise. No, not the U2 type ? It stopped cooling completely , in fact I think may have been heating the cabinet. I switched it off for a couple of days and now it is running fine?
Any ideas?
Thanks Lyndon

Sounds similar to what happened to
mine a few years ago.
It seemed to have died. I took it out of the Patrol (mounted there permanently usually) and tried to run it in the shed on 240v and then (when that failed), on 12v. No go on either power source.
Took it to an Engel approved service bloke (80klicks away in
Crystal Brook). I phoned him after about 2 weeks to see what his verdict was. He apologised for not getting back to me, but said he'd plugged it in as soon as i dropped it off and had started up straight away and was continuing to run perfectly
well. Also ran just as
well on 12 volts.
Made me feel like a right idiot!!!!!
I drove back over, picked it up, plugged it in, turned it on......and it's been running perfectly (24/7) ever since.
Still don't know why it played up.

"Made me feel like a right idiot!!!!! "
Don't. I used to have a motorbike that had an intermittent / persistent stuttering-stalling issue. Probably something electrical. Would happen all the time, EXCEPT when I was was within 500 yards of the mechanics
shop when it would run perfectly. Booked it in 5 times but it steadfastly refused to reproduce when it was on
the bench at the bike
shop.
The mechanic / owner used to laugh and he reckoned this happens all the time... Murhpy's Law or some deep force within the fabric of the universe.

"Very smart"? Not so sure about that.
Plugged into 240V
Unplugged and plugged back in.

Sounds like a blocked capilary. At least I think thats what they call it. Just returned one back for service with the same problem. Bought it in July 09 and used it for a freezer for two months without a problem. Now every time it switches on plenty of noise but no cooling. I have Engels and Auotfridges and this is the only one to give trouble. Hope yours gets sorted.
Cheers Teza

The noise seems to have something to do with the performance? Low noise = runs
well, rattle rattle is when it dies?
Going fishing soon and it is out Barra freezer :-(

Are you heading down to
Roper Bar, Lyndon?
That cyclone is lurking around that area at the moment and we're hoping it doesn't come up this way!
Hope the 40 litre Engel doesn't let you down on your trip...
Chris

Hi Chris
Yeah.
Roper bar for two weeks at
Easter. Flying my dad up for a week, will be his first, but hopefully not his last barra trip (he is in 70’s). Also hope to take him to a very remote Aboriginal cave/tunnel we know out that way. Our boat (larger one) arrived in
Darwin last week on the train from
Adelaide. Be nice to be out of the “croc biscuit” ? In true
Darwin style we were able to collect the boat with no paperwork or ID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers Lyndon

Hi Lyndon
It would be nice to meet you at
Roper Bar at
Easter but I doubt the road out of Gove would be open by then!
Gotta love the layback NT attitude until some freight addressed to you DOESN'T arrive!!!!
Cheers Chris

I have just taken my Engel 40 to the authorised service agent with very similar symptoms and about the same age.
He said it is either the power supply, which he doubts because it is doing the same thing on both 240 and 12v. or the compressor unit.
The repair is likely to be about $400 or $500 for the power supply or $600 for the compressor unit.
This is the second time I have had the same problem in just over 12 months so no warranty. You can guess how impressed I am
