Would like to know the flattest route from
Bendigo perhaps via Temora to
Brisbane.
Have come down the coast and going back from inland.
Am towing a 2850 kg 25ft van so am not planning on going through the Snowy.
Thanks

Graham
Straight up the Newell.
Maybe
Kidman Way, but you will still get hills.
No other way. ,,,, and forget about the hills..;.. just do it
Cheers

Ha ha Just we have to go
home unexpectedly for a couple of weeks and then head back to Coffs to house sit for a friend for 6 months.
Otherwise we wouldnt have worried as we would take 3 more months to get there.
I read on the earlier threads about steep hills but will probably go up the Newell The trucks dont worry me to much after the road trains in Wait Awhile LOL

Graham,
A couple of threads from earlier this month - 75292 and 75186 - covered a similar question.
Cheers,
Val

According to my Chief Driver it doesn't matter which direction or what road you take it is always uphill into a headwind.
The Newell is OK but there are a lot of trucks . You can have a more enjoyable trip if you take it fairly slowly rather than push it for long days driving.
Jerilderie has a pleasant caravan park for a first night stop.
Kidman Way is easier driving trafficwise.
We do the
Brisbane to
Bendigo trip fairly often and get bored with the Newell. Its a long way whichever way you go. Last time we had a good trip detouring through Wagga, Cowra, Canowindra and
Wellington and down the Golden Highway through the Hunter where we had a choice of the
New England or Pacific Highway to
Brisbane. A very enjoyable trip if you have the time. Cheers Lynne

From
Bendigo it's a easy run north to
Echuca, Deniliquin, then to
Jerilderie on the Newell Hwy.
From
Jerilderie you just follow the Newell all the way to
Brisbane.

Graham H (QLD) - to avoid Dubbo if you turn off the Newell at Tomingley and go through to
Narromine then back on the Newell at
Eumungerie this will save you time.
When you get to Gilgandra go to Coonamble then Pilliga, Wee Waa and Narrabri - this is some 60 kms longer but better as there are no hills and just as fast. You miss the Warrumbungles and the hills through the Pilliga scrub.

Graham, I have just been to Cobram and back, (from the Hunter Valley NSW) and about to go back to
Young this weekend.
If you come up from
Bendigo to Cobram, then Berrigan,
Lockhart (Sensational little town), Wagga, up the Olympic, Cootamundra,
Young to Cowra, then Canowindra,
Molong,
Wellington,
Gulgong,
Dunedoo,
Mendooran, Coonabarabran and up the Newell into Qld. You'll see lots of wheat country ranging from bone dry to lush green.
I always go out to
Gulgong and down and back that way these days'
You have a few good suggestions among the replies, so all the best and have a good run whichever way you choose.
Fred.

Didn't know that Pete. Do you mean Sandy Hollow,
Bylong, Rylestone???Haven't been that way for many a year, and assumed it was still gravel. Will give it a go in the near future as it will knock a few more K's off the trip. The
Young trip has now been delayed for at least another week as of this morning.
They had plenty of rain up there over Xmas so should be nice and green ???
Cheers Fred.

By "plenty of rain up there over Xmas" I meant Gulgong/
Mudgee, not
Young.

Good day Fred,
yes mate the Sandy hollow rd all sealed , who would ever have thought lol.Our old work route to
singleton was
mudgee, Ulan, turn right on to the golden highway. (this is also all sealed ), But Sandy hollow cuts off 60 ks even going through Ulan.Watch a couple of bad corners between
Bylong and Rystone though. Could catch you out if you are not on the ball. This road is extremely scenic and Rystone is a nice place to stop.
Cheers Pete

Have the billy on when I come by that way Pete. Let ya know.
I'll give it a go next trip. Get's a bit boring having seen all them trees from both sides so many times LOL
Anyone that wants to bypass the big smoke has a terrific option going out that way, whilst sticking to the bush.
Cheers Fred.

In last 2 days we came from
Echuca - camped Nth Wagga (over
bridge turn right) then via Temora to
Young (via Grogan) road v/gd to good and reasonable.
Very little traffoic during the days
suggest AVOID the Newell - too much traffic and loonies - an accident waiting to happen - could be you as other party - hope not but inreased risk IMHO
you could go Cowra,
Orange and pick the quiet roads further North as we did 2 yerars ago just west of the Great Divide which is shown on maps
Cheers Baz
