Evakool Fridges

I've done the research, taken measurements and looked around and have decided on an Evakool fridge (RF47FF). So the last question I have is .. "are they reliable?"

If you have an Evakool fridge, have you had any trouble with it? If you have, how has the warranty/support/repair work been, any problems with that?

From what I can tell they're pretty good.

Thanks,
Matt.

I've had an RF60 for around 8 troublefree years. It get's used a lot. My brother in law bought one the same time and has not had a problem either. Go for it.

Bought my eva kool in 2000, it's been around Aus twice and up and down and across a few times as well.

No problems with it.

When you mount it they recommended (back in 2000) sitting it on a sheet of High density Foam, helps to reduce shock on rough tracks I suppose.

Siringo.

Have had one for a number of years.
Had electrical problems which I fixed and not problems since.
I needed a second fridge and if they made the old style still I would have purchase an evakool but I don't like the new style.
The fridge has been on many long rough trips and not let me down. It now resides in our camper.

Hi All,

I too have been looking at an Evakool fridge around the 70 - 90lt, but was wondering if anyone has put one in a trailer? Do they handle the bumps or should it go in the car?

Thanks Justin.

I've had an ED90 for about 5 years. Never had any issues at all except soft drink cans blowing up because I had it set too cold.

An excellent choice in my view.

Oh and mine was mounting in the fridge box in the trailer. On the front of a trailer the ride is as smooth as the back of the vehicle as most of the movement is coming from the vehicle's movement. The trailer has more movement at the rear of the trailer. I'm sure there is a technical term but because the trailer is connected to the vehicle its stability is more related to the vehicle.

Hi Matt,

We took 2 of the 47L ones with us on a 6 month trip in 2008. I bought an older one 2nd hand and that lived in the camper trailer and although it'd be pretty hot in there after a days driving up north, it held temps very well. A new one we bought went in the back of the car. No problems with them, they run the danfoss compressor like a lot of others.

No we're home we don't need 2. The new one has been the beer fridge since but I'm buying a 'normal' house fridge for more room so it's for sale if interested. At 2.5 on the dial (out of 10) the beer is kept around -2 to +2, just perfect.

Cheers,

Mark.

Thanks Matt,

Everytime I go to BFC theres an Evacool 70 ltr I keep looking at, sitting amongst the Wacoes and Engels.

Must have checked it out a dozen times or so.
At $1250 it looks even better than the others.

Next visit it may come home with me.

Cheers........Lionel.

Hi Matt,
We bought the Evakool fridgemate 70lt nearly 2 years ago at the Sydney super show. We are very happy with it's performance. The only issue we had was the thermostat wasn't working properly in the first week we had it. E-mailed them and they rang back within the hour. They faxed me the diagram and the procedure to adjust it. Fixed the problem easily and it works great, sometimes too cold. Great after sales service! When we were camped on the Lachlan river near Hillston, western NSW we did it hard with baked dinner in the camp oven and apple pie and ice cream for dessert out of the freezer section.
We wouldn't go away without it and would certainly recommend evakool to anyone.
Cheers, Gary.

G'day Slick,
Have been trying to find procedure this morning but with no luck. Give them a ring. I'm sure they will send one out to you.Mine is due for it's two year warranty service next month. They check overall operation and adjust thermostat settings if needed as part of the service.
I can remember that there was an internal grub screw in the thermostat and it was for colder turn clockwise and warmer turn anticlockwise. One full turn equalled 2-3 deg. C. Start with one turn and monitor for a few hours and keep going until you find the desired setting. Hope this helps.

Well my nice new Evakool fridge arrived the other day, only thing wrong was it had the white fibreglass casing smashed down the front right hand corner, so back it went. 2 days later the replacement arrived.

Great I thought, now I'll test it using the 240v AC adaptor I got with the fridge. Hmm, the 240v adaptor is faulty, so back it went.

As of writing I bought the fridge about 2 weeks ago and as of yet I haven't been able to run it up.

I know these things happen, but I must admit I'm a bit peeved ....
