I am considering mounting a rear opening Roof Top tent on my 2008 Prado.
Has any one any experience in doing this ?
Does any one know if when the existing factory rails are removed, where exactly is the rear mounting point located ? (It must be located somewhere under the filled in section of rail at the rear)

If you lift the rubber "filler" adjacent to the rail mount, you will see where the rails bolt on. Anything you replace it with, willl have to go where the rails bolt to the vehicle. There are no other mounting points with the exception of the three factory points on each side.

Hi mate. I have a 04 Prado with an ARB Simpson rooftop tent mounted on it. I have the Rhino comercial rack that it is mounted on. I have it opening to the drivers side to still allow the use of my foxwing awning.
I'd put up a pic but don't know how to do it.............

Thanks Fred but where exactly are the two (one either side) rear rear mounting points located. it is not possible to see where under the 300mm long filled in section of the factory rails.
I wold expect that they are in the same place as on the earlier Prado's without the factory rails.

The factory rails are mounted on the mounting points. You will need to remove the covering to exactly where the mounts are, but roughly as follows:
Front: over the front door pillar
Middle: over the rear door pillar
Back: about 10" - 12" from the rear of the vehicle
hope this helps. Otherwise go to ARB or your local dealer and they will be able to show you exactly where they are.
regards

Thanks guys I was trying to get away without removing the rear section of rail at this stage but looks like that is the only way to get it exact. Have tried Toyota and ARB but no joy!! Will base my calculations on the center of the rear section of the rail which would be about 250mm (10 inches) from the rear of the roof panel.
Thanks

Thanks Did the 04 Prado have the factory mounted roof rails ?
If not how far is it from the joint between the roof panel end and the rear mounting point of your rack (Assuming that you used the rear point of the track where the roof is strengthened to carry the rack mount)
