Hi all, has anyone ever travelled the Gibb in the middle of November? After doing some research I`ve found most
places will have closed by the end of October. Does anyone know of any
places still open in November? Since we are unable to travel any earlier, we`d still love to drive it if weather permits of course. I`d appreciate any information, many thanks!

Two things it'll be hot, and It'll be hot.
I spent 5 Months up there from Late Oct to April, and it was Hot.
Other than that not too sure what you'll find open as I wasn't a tourist at the time.

Drive it, and you may not get out for weeks (or more :-o)...... there's reading in many
places re the wet season risks up there - try TREKS info here, plus
Drysdale River Station, for starters.

Have a look at the average temeratures for
Wyndham in November. It doesn't get below 38 during the day and 26 at night (with 40% humidity).
In 2008 a tropical low passed over early December and flooded the whole area with about 400mm of rain in 3 days. If you were on the Gibb during one of these storms (or even a smaller one) you wouldn't get out for several weeks, if you are lucky, and that's only if more rain doesn't come.
There is nothing stopping you from going in a little way from
Derby or
Kununurra for a while and if bad weather looks like coming then quickly get back onto bitumen.
It would be a shame to go all of that way only for the road to be blocked.

Perhaps a
Kimberley member can clarify for me.
Much of the attraction of the GRR is the
water amongst the stark scenery.
Water flows and waterfalls reduce as the season progresses. It would be very early in the season to get significant rain, so expect the attractions of
water to be poor viewing.
And the heat? It was hot enough for me in June.

November could be OK, However, The track will be at it's worst after the tourist season is finished and there will not be any grading done until after the wet. Check for cyclone warnings, If there has not been a cyclone at that time it should be OK. Normally after the first cyclone the GGR gets a bit tricky particularly at river crossings. Cheers

You will have no worries at all driving it at that time, road will probably be fairly corrugated though. And there will be very minimal
water around, will be pretty hot, probably uncomfortable to sleep at night, and the land will be very dry and unpleasant looking. In the Air con is the place to be at this time of year.

Thank you all for your honest opinions, we`ll most likely travel a different route now, noticing that every one of you do not recommend travelling in November..cheers
