Bob of KAOS
I kept getting system messages about my browser running flash and slowing things down. This was associated with episodes of the spinning beach ball (Mac OS 10.6.2) and Safari freezing temporarily.
I found
advice on how to delete Flash and now it runs much faster. Sadly, the Go Go dancer has Gone :-(
No doubt, you can do this on a Wintel too.The Flash player was a 13.7 MB plugin.
If I need to run Flash I will open the link in a different browser.

Bob
I'm no expert, but is this one of the issues Steve Jobs ( Apple CEO) was whingeing about the other day? Apparently the new Ipad is not compatible with Adobe Flash because Jobs reckons it's rubbish.

I wonder how much extra download usage is used by having Flash Enabled.
Maybe David could tell us...
I err the kids keep going over the 25gig limit and then we are slowed (capped) so much that it stops a lot of emails coming down cos the server kicks me off cos of "outlook timeout"

You can also install add ons to the browser which stop all the ads and flash stuff and speed things up considerably.
With firefox I've got Adblock and Flashblock which stop most of the crap and speed things up no end.
With the flash stuff you get a logo which you can click to get something to run on that one occasion. works a treat.

Agreed I downloaded Flashblock and it made a huge difference. Some annoying ads still get through but not like before where there were dozens of them on some sites that start chewing up your CPU.

I run XP Pro and Firefox browser. I have found disabling Javascript stops the Lynx ad. Don't seem to be missing anything much else. Can always turn it on if something is not working.

This sounds to me like there is a faulty ad in the network - can anyone tell me what ads or on the screen when the message appears - I can then advise the agency to remove the faulty ad from the network.
As far as deleting flash this will also start to stop the latest round of upload
tools I have been developing - this is not released as yet but has been in development for some time. I may have to rethink the uploader however there is no easy answer in terms of client to server uploads that work
well - hence I decided on flash. Lets see if we can identify the ad initially.

I have just advised the agency to fix or pull the westpac ad (it appears to be the common link). We will see what happens when this is resolved.

Hi David
As below, I am using IE 6 and find the site intolerably slow; particularly when typing a reply. I have been getting "the message" over the past few days, and it is usually there when i return after leaving the computer for a while. Today it came up while i was here, and the adverts running were Commonwealth Bank, and Qantas-AMEX card.
When i get the message, i say yes to abort the script, but i have to close down all applications open in IE to be able to continue. Leaving ExOz open while i am doing other things and 'popping in' every now and then is no longer an option.

Is this the message you are getting?

I am using IE 6 and ExplorOz has been so slow that i give up some days. I have been getting this message for a couple of days - usually when i return to my computer the message is there.
Typing into ExOz has been tediously slow for me for months.
