Mobils Satellite Dish

We bought a satellite dish and decoder while travelling through WA and it work great. Now we are home and planing our next trip to north SA and we have found that it longer works. We have contacted Optus and the smart card has been activated, we also get 80% signal but the tv screen message is (no signal) has anyone had the same problem? or knows what is wrong.

The angles for the East coast are vastly different to the West coast.

If you bought it off a reputable dealer they should or could have given you a book with the angles for a lot of the bigger places around the country.

Is the signal 80% green or red.

If you are on the wrong satellite it will often show "no audio or video"

if so tilt it down a little and pull east a bit

Personally Sat Tv at home is a bit of a waste due to the restricted channels.

We use it in the east if we wake up late and switch to the west coast channels to watch the breakfast show.

There is a website which gives you the angles for direction an elevation to tune it in correctly.

You should also have your TV source on AV if using the red white and yellow RCA connections.

Another thought is if you bought it in the west it may be set up for WIN and

GWN and not get the east coast channels if you are using an OPTUS card

These have to be re enabled when moving from West to East, as does Imparja.

The 80% signal is a bar that moves accross the screenas you move the dish and we have a location map I still think we have the wrong satellite

I did ask was it red or green Do you have a compass as well as the map.

What make of dish do you have.

If you have the no signal on the screen you have a connection problem

IS the box turned on pull your card out and put it back

IF the box is connected to the TV correctly it will show Card initialising.

If it still shows no signal its definitely connections

What sort of a connector do you have between the box and the tv It is best to use the red white and yellow one with the TV on AV

The dishes, depending on the make can have a deviation or magic number in degrees of elevationMine is 1.5 deg higher than what it should be

As I said if you have a strong green signal bar pull the dish down a couple of degrees and standing behind it pull the right side back a little at a time.

Do you have a satellite finder with the whistle noise

Please answer the questions and we can help If you dont we cant.

Cheers

Instead of turning things off Just pull the card out and put it back in it as I said should say Card initialising.

If you are getting no signal you woulD normally not get the signal strngth bars as that Relies on a signal being received to show anything

If it still says no signal you have a connection problem

On the back of the box make sure you have the R W Y in the correct sockets and not in the R B G which is compsite outputs

What make of TV is it and is it set to AV Get yourself a satelllite finder, just the little one with a needle pointer on it Makes things much easier. Only about $25

Must have been a rumpty mob you got the gear from.

We bought the card in WA when i rang Optus they asked for the number on the card and it took 24 hours to activate it but we had moved to SA .
I went on line to www.optus.com.au/smartcard and filled out the smartcard activation request foarm with change address details and the next day it worked.

Hi! We find the following site very useful in getting the correct azimuth, elevation and skew. Make sure you select the correct satellite!

Dishpointer
