Hello,

As fellow travellers on a budget could I suggest that getting a copy of Camps 5 (available through this site or good camping shops etc) will be one of the most cost effective investments that you will make for your trip. Also talking to other travellers will give you a lot of info about good campsites.

Have a great trip,

Val

Also the later editions have GPS coords for many campsites, so if you are using some form of GPS navigation that can come in very handy.

Cheers,

Hi John & Val.
Camps 5 is certainly the go.
It would also pay to update the changes. Many overnight spots have disappeared.I spent a few hours this morning updating my copy.
Cheers.

i know roadhouses are noisy but they have facilities, do i have to pay to use them or are there any circumstances or situations required to use them, washing machines showers etc, we are self contained but when on the road a good shower is sometimes required even on a budget such as ours

As long as you stay overnight, you can stop at any of the Roadside rest areas. Drive to survive - Cheers Tony

Tonyfish

just remembering that a lot of these road side rest areas do get very full with heavy vehicles especially at night.travellers need to be aware that these rigs come and go at ALL hours of the day and night and sometimes you need to be aware that these drivers use these areas because they are required by law to have their rest breaks.
now don't get me wrong, these areas are open to all vehicles, but you will find as there aren't that many which are big enough to accommodate large trucks these areas are usually full up. all most of us heavy vehicle drivers ask for from the public is move to the end of the rest area when you come in and not park in the middle of them, cheers.

Try "Roadside Rest Stops" in the site's search engine.
That'll give you the legal stuff, then type "Guide to Queensland Roads" (referenced in the legal stuff) in the engine and see what you get.
