is it possible to recondition a fairey overdrive that fits to a hj47 landcruiser? if so where? also do they make a noise while working, like a whining noise?

check out this thread:

overdrive thread

Thought about doing this in my '82 HJ47 but decided against is as:

1. costly
2. new gears need to fit in existing case and are half width gears ... worried about stressing them
3. ever tried to corner a 40 series troopy over 100kph?? - decided the current set up was fast enough for my use...

dozers reply in the link is probably relevant

"The gearmasters havnt been around for long.....they are costly suckers, but probably the best alternative if you have the later 4 speed and transfer in there now....it will last forever, and 5th in a 5 speed is only 15% compared to the gearmaster.....also look at marks4x4.com as they sell the od's// now a negitive for them is gear noise at highway speed....because the diameters of the gears are smaller and larger, there is a trade off in whining of the gear teeth.
The other thing with the gearmasters is low range can be made lower aswell....

Alec drop a 5 speed in instead, you can get an adaptor for the transmission brake or put a later model rear end in with the handbrake on the rear brakes.

Some put dyna 5 speed boxes in also.
