Hi, I have some more questions

1. If you buy a 3 seat troopy say a 06 - 07 model. Can you get seats added?

2. If so, does anyone know of good company to do it?

3. Does anyone know costs etc.

AND

Is it better to buy in WA or elsewhere in OZ.

Thanks again

Nat

The first thing you should be looking at is the vehicles compliance plate as this will state the number of bums on seats which effects the licencing, insurance etc and if you want to change the quantity then check with the motor vehicle registry.

Having said that you will probably see on the floor in the rear a whole array of bolt holes that have auotmaticaly installed for the various seating configurations like a forward facing 3 seater bench seat or the side facing bench seats. Then you just need to buy the applicable seat/s and install yourself.

1/ Can be done.
2/ Sorry can't help
3/ Can be expensive.
4/ Not necessarily as you have all the hassle and cost of blue/pink and mods/repairs to get it reg in your state.

Several things to think about.

A three seater troopy does not come with the necessary reinforcing and mounting points for either the seat of the seatbelts. Fitting aftermarket seats can be done by companies that specialise in doing this to vans etc. Make sure the final price includes engineering certification by the installer for the state in which you live/wish to register it. What is ok in one state may not comply in another.

I went through this dilemma a few times over the years, we've had four troopies and have added and changed seat configs in three of them.
The last one was factory six seater and getting a genuine one is the best way to go, You get the front swivelling passengers seat, second rear mounted door handle on passengers door, three belted seating positions in the rear and the rear seat can be folded forward to increase load are if required.
You also don't have exposed bolts for the rear belts on the outside and most six seaters come with aux tank and rear tyre mount.

So would be better to get 11 or 6/5 seater and change around that way?

Exactly how many seats do you need?

Geoff,
Landcruiser HDJ78,

Well, currently we are a family of 7, but may go 8.
I don't like the 100 or 200series due to no space for legs or anything really.

I know the model I think
HDJ78 or a VDJ78 but they are hard to come by and that don't cost the world.

I'm a bush girl, grew up in the Murchision, so I have driven alot of 4x4's, like the troopy for the size.

My Hubby and I aren't major 4wded people, it's more for the getting the boys out and showing them the countryside so they will have a understanding about it, like I did.

Just get an 11 seater and use a trailer and a good roof rack for the gear .
