A Toyota dealership in the NE of
Adelaide has (at this stage) done the right thing by me.....
last friday when i went to pick the kids up a awful grinding sound was coming from the rear.....when i got home I had a bit of look at the back wheel rotors and they looked good on the visible side.
BUT...oh hell whats all the shiny stuff on the wheel rim mmmmm, brakes, rotor material or bearing?
Dropped the car across to Dealer and they had a look..."need new rotors and pads was the reply"
I said "please carry out the work, it needs to be done. Check when it was in for its last service, and when I come to collect I think I will need an explanation".
He Said..."Hold the line Sir"..comes back in a minute or two and says" I see what you mean"
a month and a half (some 1500 klicks) back the Toyota went in for usual service ....all okay was the statement when I went to pay...brakes have 7mm left, tyres ok etc etc the usual bull......
Just picked up the car and they havent yet decided what they are doing, but it sounds like I wil/might be only be paying for front pads.
They will let me know.
I will wait and see......if I can keep my cool...hahaha
That reminds me...they still havent pout the globe fitting back into the bull bar indictor yet either

So, let me get this straight, the workshop/dealer that initially claimed your brakes were OK, 1500 km ago, and the obviously weren't, are the same mob who are now going to undertake the repairs on your vehicle's brakes. Wow, hope your insurance is up to date.

not every one is as perfect as you DIO
and yes I do trust them
people do make mistakes...they are accomodating and are willing see their faults....not like some so called perfectionist
"the same mob who are now going to undertake the repairs on your vehicle's brakes"......... as for insurance if something goes wrong with their work I suspect that they have Liability Insurance DIO which I can fall back on.
some people really do need to take off their blinkers.....sigh

Exactly No1, I tend to judge these situations on the way the issue is dealt with, and generally with Toyota it is dealt with pretty
well.

You know MN1 as a self employed tradie you'll get what I'm about to type.
People expect the occasional stuff up. It's not the stuff up itself that gets up their nose, it's the way the supplier recovers from the stuff up.
If you genuinely make retribution and apologise when dealing with a reasonable person you'll mostly win a customer for life.

Geoff, I wouldn't say people expect the occasional stuff up, although most do accept the occasional stuff up. If you own a workshop you soon learn this. What I have also learnt is, like you have said, it is the way they deal with it. Although missing worn brake pads is fairly big stuff up. Every service I do all the
wheels are taken off the car, mostly to rotate the tyres, but also it is the only way to properly check brake pads/shoes, measure rotor thickness or drum diameter, all things that should be checked and measured during a service. Maybe the service advisor should do his job and keep an eye on his mechanics.
Cheers Andrew

Update
All finalised and I didnt even need to get cranky...thats amazing for me...hahaha
Dealer absorbed all costs for labour and new rear rotors....I had to pay for new pads front and rear.
I reckon thats more than a fair outcome.
