Easting (MGA) 310375
Northing (MGA) 7571590
Could somebody please change these to Deg,Min,Sec.
Where or how do you do this ? My Oziexplorer does not seem to have the option of Northings / Eastings .
Thanks a lot,
Willie

G'day Willie,
Google Easting Northing conversions. You are missing the zone number. It will be 49 to 56. It is under UTM in Garmin or Mapsource as
well. Where you can change minutes and seconds to decimal degrees etc.
I am sure all units will have this.
Cheers,
Bill

Bill, that was not supplied so I will try both to see if it's about where it's meant to be.
Thanks,
Willie.

Willie
The only way I can find in Ozi is to place a new waypoint somewhere
on the map and then 'edit position' and set postion format to UTM.
You can then add your UTM co-ordinates and will then show them
in Deg Min Sec.
Hope this helps
Chris

FYI incase you did not know, you can right click on these co-ordinates or datum and change to a different type. This does not change your configuration settings and will revert to you normal settings when restarting the program.
This is an easy way of entering different co-or systems when placing new waypoints without having to open and change the configuration.

In zone 56 the
grid reference is out to sea of the Central Queensland coast.

Hi Alan,
At the moment , if I right click on the waypoint and go to PROPERTIES and then EDIT POSITION, The options are , UTM or Deg + min and a decimal point of the min ( but not deg, min and sec)
Why doesnt it come up with UTM / deg, min and sec which is what I want.
This is even after I have been into CONFIGURATION - MAPS - LAT LONG DISPLAY and changed it to Deg,Min,Sec and saved it.
However it comes up with Deg,Min,Sec up the top with the UTM read-out and also when you hover the cursor over the waypoint.
What am I doing wrong ?
Thanks,
Willie.

Most GPS's (Garmin etc) will do the conversion, create the waypoint in the gps with what you have and then change the display to deg min & sec or whatever you want.

Hello Willie
There are a number of ways to display/convert coords in OziExplorer. If you have a waypoint already entered then you can open up the waypoint list and toggle between UTM and lat long.
Image Could Not Be Found
As others have mentioned, the UTM cords you have provided are incomplete (Zone information is also required...a datum would also be nice as
well) so difficult to guess the area they are from.
It is also possible to export data from OziExplorer in almost any datum in UTM or lat/long.
Good luck
Cheers
Greg

UTM Zones are 6 degrees wide, which means that Eastings and Northings recur every 6 degrees i.e about every 500km.

...only the eastings "recur" across Australia. Northings would only be repeated if you travelled to the northern hemisphere.
Cheers

I would keep everything in utm. It is in metres and easy to see what the easting northing is rela tive to kilometres. There are good reasons for using degrees when navigating at sea but driving on land and converting sea
miles to your odometer kilometres would suck. Even the eastings are corrected from zone to zone so you dont have to worry what latitude you are in when you change degrees of longtude to distance.
