I will be in Perth this week and will only have a day or so to run around and I need to get a roof rack fitted to a 3.0 litre Nissan Patrol.

I am being guided towards ARB by people with the car but I figure there will be equally good products out there without the added value for the name of the place that sells it.

Any suggestions as to where and how much I'll be looking at to get hold of one. I would expect that ARB will set me back a thousand or thereabouts.

Moneypit,

The Jarram factory is in Welshpool and sells a superb rack. Alloy construction, mesh welded at every point of contact with the crossmembers not just every second or so, wind deflector and powder coating that is very robust. I just put one on my GU Patrol to replace the one that I sold fitted to my 80 series as part of the sale. I believe the ARB bar is steel and a bit heavier than the Jarram but ARB sell the Jarram bar as well. $1150ish for the 1800 mm rack (6 legs), 1240ish for the 2100mm length (8 legs) if my memory serves me well. Mine have travelled 40 000+ km problem free. Worth a look.

Cheers,

Hilly

G'day Moneypit,
You can't go past Jarram roof racks. I have had one fitted to my rig for about 6-7 years now, carrying spare wheels, swags, oars, tents and a boat with no problems at all. Has been up and down the Gibb River Road, around most of W.A. and back a forth to S.A. on many occassions and has performed without problems. I have no affiliation with Jarram, I just like their roof rack.

Happy Travelling,
Peter. It doesn't get any better than this!!!

I have a secondhand steel jaram roof rack tradesman style.
Size 2.18m from front post to back post and 1.3m wide,
Width is adjustable. 8 posts 25cm high.
Wooden slat floor which can be removed.
It comes with 4 gutter clamps, you'll need another 4 which cost ~$7 each from Jaram.
Will sell it for $200.00

Thanks to those that replied.

Ended up purchasing a Jaram Overlander [Alloy - 8 leg] Got the full length one so I can sleep up there whene its necessary and it is fitted with there recommended wind deflector.

Bloke called Andy Brydon at Jaram was was helpful and faxed me through the pictures and dimesions etc. Should be on the car before I get to Perth. Easy as that.

Thanks again.

Hi Dave,

How is the roof rack holding up?
How much did you end up paying for it?

Got back from Perth about an hour ago so sorry for the delay but I haven't been near a computer for a week.

Ended up with a Jaram Overlander that I couldn't get any cheaper than $1200. Ended up with the bloke who was tracking down the car made some calls and got the damn thing for $1012 fitted on the car.

Gotta wonder when 'sorry mate, thats the best I can do' is really from the heart and not just a cut off point for one particular bloke. Maybe if I was 21 and very curvy and perhaps a different gender I might start to get somewhere.

Regards

Dave
