Hello trendsetters!

I have been having a problem with Ozi not working, I get an error when I click on the shortcut on the desktop. I went to the file and double clicked oziexp, exe and same error. I have a few copies of Ozi on the pooter so I went to another, this time on the c:drive and clicked the oziexp.exe file and away she goes! I suspect a problem with the g:drive (where Ozi was) so copy the 400gig of files to drive H:, reformat drive G: install Ozi, same bloody problem, what now? Maybe it doesn't like running off g:drive for some reason, although its been quite happy for about 2 years?? Everything else worked on g:drive so leave the damn thing alone and work off the c:drive.

Great - fixed...copy all the map files to c:drive, easy, 40gig of maps copied in 6 hours or so, piece of cake. Setup the shortcut to point to the c:drive - sorted!

Couple days later, same bloody problem, same error, off the c:drive, so I try a copy on the external drive, drive J: works a treat, try drive g: - no go, drive h: - no go. Email the Ozi man, tells me its a windows error, double crap.

During the remucking around and reducing the number of Ozi installs from about 10 to one on the pooter I renamed a heap of old map directories and so the shortcut wouldn't get lost I renamed the oziexp.exe file to oziexplorer.exe and like an idiot I double clicked it - IT WORKED, tried the same n drive g:, IT WORKED TOO.

Swore at Bill Gates (and all who sail in him) and went to bed. Problem solvered.

Question: Does anyone know why this would have happened? I am stumped. I even asked Robbo who mentioned something about the planets being aligned and then wandered off to resolder a joint on the troopy.

So Trendsetters, who can answer this conundrum?

"who can answer this conundrum?"

Nobody until you tell us the error. Batteries are flat in my crystal ball.

I have full admin rights too by the way and the file was definitely there as I could navigate to it in Win Explorer

It's working now and you know what filenames and sub-directories you changed, along with some filenames. The answer to your question lies in that lot, obviously when your shortcut was pointing to the wrong address and when you renamed stuff you got it right.

The registry on your machine must be having a heart attack Bonz.

BTW if it took you that long to copy 40gb of maps I'd be checking all of my drives as that's far too long for a job like that!

Once I had sorted out that the shortcut didn't work I did al the other checking by double clicking the actual filename in Win explorer.

The fix came by simply changing the filename from oziexp.exe to oziexplorer.exe, everything else remained the same

How many installs do you usually have of other programs? Sounds like a registry error somewhere. Lucy would be right, your planets were misaligned. First sort out your planets.

Shouldn't the post be moderated on the language rule?

The registry is clean John, I checked the whole thing out.

The error was

It seems to be saying it cant find the file but I could navigate to it by Win Explorer and when I double clicked it gave the same error

For optimal confusion, I recommend installing the same program on 26 different drives. No point in wasting drive letters or playing favourites :-)

No worries, you are spot on with how I was thinking, I emailed the Ozi guys asking if it mattered how many versions of their software is installed in a PC as I thought it may be getting confused. They told me it didnt matter.

Its solved by changing the filename but I am totally stumped as to why.

All the best
