Whether its the best stuff that actually gets put into the loo will be no doubt dependant on the quality of what you eat in the first place.

Hmmm we have been using the pink and green stuff (liquid) in bottles available in the camping shop, which we have been using for many years, however, the tablets seem a little more convenient. Would like to know the name of them and where I can get them? Thx

Maureen this has been discussed in detail here in recent times, and I think you will find those of use using the very cheap homebrand nappy san are very happy with the results.
Have a search through the threads, you're sure to find previous lengthy discussions.
We would never go back to the tablets or Thetford liquids. Too expensive also, compared to the cheap nappy san, which also doubles for its original purpose for laundry soaker, so less to carry.

Fred.

Nappysan actually damages porta potis and many caravan and motor home manufactures won't warranty their use.

The odour-B-gone tablets are the best you can use and you don't have to carry any liquids. I have found that a lot of camping and boating shops sell them. The slow acting are for grey water tanks and the fast acting are for dunny use.
They are approved by the Great Barrier Reef authority as well

Forgot to add,
and you don't get that nasty chemical smell as you do with with all the liquid ones.

Yep have to agree, have changed to napisan, very happy, and as for damage, it only comes into contact with the plastic collection tank?, cant see where the damage could be?

Odour-b-gone and napisan have the same active ingredient.

I said above "Odour-b-gone and napisan have the same active ingredient." but that was from a remark on the caravan forum so I thought I would check.

The correct answer is:

From the MSDS, Odour-B-Gone's main ingredient is Sodium peroxy carbonate - Na2CO4 - at between 10-30% by weight.

Nappisan and the various home brand derivatives use Sodium Percarbonate - Na2CO3·1.5H2O - at varying concentrations up to 35% in some home brand products.

Both work by breaking down to Hydrogen Peroxide and inert salts on contact with water. Hydrogen Peroxide - H2O2 - is a strong disinfectant that decomposes to oxygen and water.

Wikipedia notes about Hydrgen Peroxide that:

"It is a weak acid, has strong oxidizing properties, and is a powerful bleaching agent. It is used as a disinfectant, antiseptic, oxidizer, and in rocketry as a propellant."

Not too sure about the last one - perhaps you shouldnt smoke while on the thunder box or you might achieve orbit! :o)

Cheers

Pete
