Just purchased a 2002 SE Jackaroo which has 245/75 R16 tyres as standard. I have a near new set of 285/75R16 BFG All Terrain T/A's off my previous Nissan Patrol. Does anyone know if these will fit the Jackaroo without any mods ? (Accept that the speedo will be out a bit)

Factory tyres for the Jackaroo are 245/70R16 FYI, they have no problem running 265/70, 245/75 or even 265/75. I believe you should be able to run the 285/75's but you will notice the reduction in power quite significantly if you have a petrol manual.
Here's a link to someone in the US who's done it without any issues (mild OME ~2" lift only with front torsion bars would up).

Old Mal, very wise choice, welcome to the Jack Club, there are several who frequent these pages. My rough maths tells me the 285/75s are about 60mm
taller than than the 245/75s. How much difference in rolling diameter I dont know
but as said above, enough to affect speedo reading & gearing. I doubt the 3.5V6
would notice it much, not sure of the diesel. No doubt wiser owners can offer
better advice. Best way maybe to wack em on & try em out :)))......oldbaz.

Mine is a 3.5 V6 7 seater SE Auto - one owner 133,000 km's all receipts for services inc timing belt replacement at 100k's. It looks to be in mint cond but I have never owned a Jack before - anything I should be mindful of ?

Cheers, Old Mal

Just keep servicing regularly - they can have problems from blockages in oil galleries if it's not regularly changed. It should have heaps of life in it though - I sold my 3.2L V6 with 396,000km on it and it had only just begun needing the oil topped-up between 10,000km changes.

If you're planning a lot of driving over corrugated roads, I'd personally recommend a look at my blog "Jackaroos, corrugations and fuel pumps" - it was the biggest problem I ever had with the car in over 6½ years and 170,000km.

If it weren't for the short touring range and the discontinuation of the Jackaroo, I'd be happy to buy another one...

Tough question Mal, mine, a 2000 3.5 auto, had 87k on it when I found it in 07,
now has 125k & most of that was outback touring towing a C/t. I havent had one
thing wrong with it & cant overstate what a fabulous thing it is. The only warning
I can give is re fuel use..If you boot it ,it will boot you back in the wallet. Driven
under 100kph, towing, I average 15L/100, but without constant throttle control
you wont get near this. Mine has FWH & I believe the later models like yours do
not, & can use more fuel. Having said that, if you need power in a hurry for safety reasons, plant it & it will give you heaps. I have found the reliability, room,
power, comfort , high seating position, solid "feel" all good reasons to be happy with it. It came with a TJM Nudge Bar & lights, I have added a 140L long range
tank, Hayman Reese Towbar, overhead console & UHF, & Polyairs, running BFG
A/ts. No plans to add anything else. I hope you get as good a run as I have. No
doubt Madfisher Pete will have his two bobs worth shortly, & maybe others...
cheers....oldbaz.

Pete, I found it in eBay, had to pay $200 but happy with it. Only paid $50 for a
UHF so all up cost is good. Much better option than tearing the dash apart.
Dept of Interior makes most of them, may be worth checking their website.
cheers.....oldbaz.

285 are miles to big - I have put all the Tyre sizes stated in this thread in the calculator - The standard 245/70/16 Jack tires are dwarfed by the 285s - So would be well outside legal - Check the calculator below - Cheers

I believe you are correct. The maximum increase is 15 which would make the legal limit 260....285 are to big. I drove three Jackaroos during the course of company business & they were both SE versions. Underated vehicles but having said that the last two were T/Diesels ,the servicing was spot on every 5,000km however when they both just stopped (blew up) for no apparent rerason the company bought diesel prados & surprisingly not as nice to drive as the Jacks & then they bought T/Diesel Pajero auto's which they still buy and I loved them so much I bought one. Good luck with the Jackaroo.

Welcome to the Jack Club Mal, best value , and one off the most reliable 4bys out their.
The 285/75 will make a complete dog out of it. We have three Jacks in our family, mine is a 98 se man with 157000ks on it, main use is towing my boat so kept strictly orinigal size for best power and economy, wife has an 03 Nullarbor auto in immaculate condition. Faultless so far, but it is 200 kg heavier and with no fw is thirsty. The av diff is 100ks per tank but as Bas said try and keep it under 100 and it will do 500ks per tank. This vehicle is a lot quieter then mine and it is easy to sneak up to 110. This vehicle has standard size ats on it.
Son has a 02 Se and he has put big 265/75 muddies on it, it is now very good odd road(In a Jack club trip it performed very well, BUT I could not live with the noise and poor accelaration and road handing that leaves a bit to be desired .
One thing I would recomend is get the auto serviced aqs it is the only weak link in petrol Jacks. The GM box was at the limit , with the powerfull v6
If you already have 245/75 your speedo will read slow as Jack speedos are the most accurate I( have come accross.
List the 285/75 on the trader on this web site, in fact if You join as a member you get a free add.
Hope you get a lot of enjoyment from your Jack.
Cheers Pete
