Hi all. Just need to know if the
water pump in the 1HZ has a cast iron impeller or a pressed steel one.
Will be ordering one from Toyota but they couldn’t tell me which one it has until it comes in.
Just want to make sure if it is cast iron i get one.
last time i got one for the old hi lux they gave me a pressed steel one when it had a cast iron one in it. only want to save an extra trip.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Pat,
Nothing wrong with a pressed steel impeller....as long as your coolant mix is correct it will last for years.
Incorrect coolant & way off Ph levels are the biggest killers of cooling systems today....especially so with aluminium cores & alloy heads
CU down the road

Hi Pat,
I may be wrong, I replaced my pump a year or so ago, But I think it had a plastic impellor.

x 2 .I have fitted 2 OEM 1HZ
water pumps (I have 2 landcruisers) and they were both plastic impellars.
I compared them with a cast metal impellar and the plastic looks like it could pump more coolant

G'day Pat,
I fitted a davies craig electric pump to the bottom radiator hose, thermostatically controlled using a probe in the top hose. 1996 1Hz, retro turbocharger.
About $250 it cost from Supercheap, and made in
Melbourne.
It is connected so that the pump will keep running on the thermostat after the engine has stopped until the
water temperature is below your setpoint. The engine was getting hot towing my caravan on long hills on a very hot days, also in soft sand driving it would get hotter. Just another option, I haven't road tested it yet under load.
Cheers,
Bill

Hi Pat,
The genuine pump will come with a plastic impeller and the rear gasket.
Cheers
Geoff
