Hi guys,

Heading down there this weekend. Any recommendations on best camp sites in the area? Trek looks nice, have info on the locations of the camp sites but can't fine any description of the campsites themselves.

We have 2 kids under 6 and a camper trailer with 9ft tent and awning. Prefer secluded individual sites rather than large, open areas.

Thanks!

Tristan

Hi Tristan, all the campsites (and there are quite a few) are managed by DEC and are all under the peppermints, very attractive, and have fire-rings which you're allowed to use. Bring your own firewood from outside the park.

Most sites are fairly independent from the next person but there will be a bit of overlap if your late on the scene.

It's first come first served so get there earlier than later for the long WE.

Cheers.

Hi John,

Excellent - I love the peppermint camp sites (stayed in heaps around Walpole area).

We're leaving early on Saturday morning and coming back Tuesday... hopefully jag a good spot!

Thanks,

Tristan

hi
i dont think fires are allowed in the peak of summer down there
it would be suicidal to light one even in the fire ring it only takes one spark

if a fire started in that bush you'd never escape
err on the side of caution
cheers and enjoy a safe w/end

Hi MC,

when we were down there 3 weeks ago it was mostly about 15 - 20 degrees in evenings (25 degees max during the day) and occas. drizzly in the mornings. It was no more risky than lighting a fire in the rings than in any normal spring or autumn. However I agree that if it's 40 and the easterleys are blowing, it would be very injudicious.

I must say, I was surprised myself that at a number of sites in the Park such as at Lake Jasper and at Carey Brook the DEC guys had even supplied the firewood!

Cheers. J.
