Hey all was after some feed back on troopy noise two weeks in to a full trip done some heavy towing in hills ,Now if i take off from on a
hill when the clutch disengages under full load so to speak i have a err noise like a dry bearing , the clutch is not slipping as i have tested it 5th gear handbrake on and went to take off revs dropped and stalled just as it stalled same noise happen .Thrust bearing ok as no noise when you put your foot on off clutch pedal, all oil levels ok and no slipping in drive belts . Also can anyone recommend a good mech in Tumut area.
Thanks
Brett.

Brett,
Not sure if the 78 series is similar to the 75, but such a noise can from the clutch master cylinder vacuum assist if there is a leak or fault.
Have a look at the clutch master cylinder. If there is a vertical shaft with a flat plate on the bottom, at the end of the horizontal cylinder then you have a unit with vacuum assist. I will take a picture tomorrow and post it.
Check if there is any fluid leak on the bottom of the plate. If so then it needs a repair kit from Mr Toyota.
cheers
alastair

We have a Troopy and there's a great mechanic in
Jindabyne if you are near enough to there. Don't know of any in Tumut. He works at the
Shell Servo just at the Alpine Way turnoff. Did a great service for us and picked up a tie rod about to pull, something our (ex) mechanic of 30 years forgot to do in the "big trip" checkup
