Hubby had to remove the car battery today to put it on charge......no probs there but after re-connecting everything and starting the car he's noticed that the Anderson switch in the engine is now glowing red.
Obviously something is amiss but we can't work it out.....common sense tells us somehow it's turned on or off? - but we can't work out what to do??
If any one can help we we would be most grateful?
If it's something very simple we are...er he, is going to be very red faced.
Here is the thing that is glowing red:

sounds like you have a short somewhere which discharged the battery
and now since it is recharged it does the same thing again and does glow the
switch until battery is discharged. sounds like a shotty job with little to no fuse at least not sufficient fusing.
Can burn the car though.
Take the battery off first and
check the short with an Ohms meter.
good luck

Hmmm...
Well... I just wonder from the wording of the OP whether Lynnie and Hubby would have a clue about Ohms meters and checking for shorts...
If they did - then they'd have already DONE that... Hey..??
Lynnie - You have a Problem...
Something in your battery/electrical system is short-circuiting... Is why the plug is glowing RED... Is heating up like an electric fire... And shouldn't be doing that...
FIRST - Disconnect the battery...
THEN - Tell us WHY you have an Anderson Plug in the Engine Bay...
AND...
What is connected to the wire on the OTHER end of the Anderson Plug...
Plenty of people here to talk you through it...
But DISCONNECT the battery...

Hi Jedo.....you're right we are novices.
First up what we have in the engine is'nt the actual Anderson Plug (thats in the cabin under the steering wheel) but whats in the engine is probably the isolator?
I have taken a
pic but can't upload it as we're not members.
Poor hubby is now concerned that he's done something wrong and wants to disconnect the battery again as you suggested.
Nothing is ever easy is it?
LOL

I can hear you all laughing now.....and I'm loosing it I tell ya!
Of course the Anderson plug isn't in the cabin! It's at the back of the vehicle...not under the steering wheel.....strewth it's been a long day!

Hi Lynnie, don't worry about laughing, at least your car hasn't burnt to the ground. Nothing to laugh at then!!!!!!!!!
Cheers.

Sorry but I can't put a
pic on as I'm not a member....shall fix that soon enough.
I think Derek was right about it being an isolator...my mistake calling it a 'switch'
.
Hubby swears he's never seen it glow red before but i did mention that he's never looked at it in the dark beofre either?
It makes sense that it would be lit up when it is 'on'...just need some peace of mind that all is
well and that he hasn't wired the battery incorrectly...he was super careful.
Cheers,
Lynnie

You don't need to be a member to post a photo. Just upload it a web site like Photobucket, copy the link, then click on "Insert Image" (below) & paste the image address in there.
A little bit of mucking around but makes it easy for everyone to know what you are talking about & get a better answer to your problem.
Cheers Craig..............

Many thanks Bonz for putting the
pic up for me.
The flash made it difficult to see the red light but it is inside a clear plastic cover and you can see it just under the thick red wire (looks pink).
Hubby has disconnected the battery again until we know that the car isn't going to blow up on us.
Thanks for help and advice so far guys....

All is good Lynnie, thats just the LED indicating that the isolator is switched in. It would have always been there just easier to see at night.
Connect the battery back up and relax.
