Hi Michael
Not just
Birdsville. My son was meant to fly back to work up in
Injune today, only to get an email to say the
Roma Airstrip is under water.
Injune has had nearly 6" of rain in the last 24 hours as
well. My only advise to any person that has not made their mind up about an Outback trip for this season, is to start planning. When things dry our the country in the far north of South Australia and Outback Queensland will be unreal and will be many years again until it looks so good.
Cheers
Stephen

Listening to various reports on the ABC -
Birdsville has rec'd its most rain in 100 years... Birdsvile/Innaminka/Coopers/Thargominda and all that area is cut off and won't be accessible for at least 2 weeks... The Diamentina has so much water, it is now flowing WEST into the
Simpson Desert...
The Ooodnadata Track is out - The
Flinders Ranges are out... Paranchila...
So much rain in S and SW QLD and N and NE SA that they are predicting huge inflow to
Lake Eyre and the Paroo-Darling...
On the positive side - GREAT news for livestock-producers - AND for those who love to see the
wildflowers blooming - not to mention the GREENERY...
Had a conversation with the navigator (Ha..!!) tonight - wondering if our trip North (Mid-April) is still viable - depends if "this" southerly monsoonal incursion is the last for this season: or not... And end-March/Early April could still produce overland Cyclonic activity...
The Navigator's Plan 'B' - divert to WA. They've had their hottest, driest summer in years... Yeah - but...
