Jeff,
I'm sure there are many interested in the results of this job. I live not too far away and may even make a rum down to have a gander at the job in progress.
Please post results with pics when the job is finished. It would be much appreciated.
CHeers,
Mark

Jeff,
we have them at work, don't know who did the conversion, it would have been done in.
Very professional job, our vehicles are subjected to extreme conditions and the conversion shows this up. They get rust around the rear wheel arch, this could be fixed by using lots of lanolin as a rust preventer that area.

I was in an admittedly very old one up at
Cape Leveque last year and noticed the truly awful fit of the door to the aperture, with daylight showing around the seal.
This was an issue of the fibreglass door not being the same shape as the aperture , and did not seem to me to be an in-service issue. BUT I could be wrong as the car could have been rolled at some stage distorting the aperture.
So before you take delivery just make sure the seal contacts the frame all the way around.
My quals to make this statement are 20 years in the car industry. This included working in assembly plants.

ok. rang polans and they said $7000 and 3 weeks. called SVM in queensland and they quoted $7000 plus $350 for engineers approval and also GST on top so a little more expensive. from what i could gather polans supply the doors to companies wanting to do the conversion.

If I remember correctly Dekker body builders in
Adelaide do it also.
I'm also interested in the cost, a Troopy will be my next 4wd in a few years and will look at a 3rd door.

I have choosen Polans becouse they have converted over 250 vehicles mostly ambulances for Victoria, because the owner takes charge of the project because he has a troopy converted for private use and uses it as a sample because he is happy to take me for drive in the back
seat and see if I can hear any wind noise because the cost is most effective $7000 because he will install a 3 seater bench
seat all with retractable
seat belts at an additional cost of $2800. Yes a lot of money but the vehicle 2000 model with 139000 kms is in outstanding condition and I intend keeping it for at least another 5/6 years
Cheers....................Jeff

yeah i would ship my car from
brisbane to
melbourne for those guys to work on. the guys at SVM didnt seem to want to do it and 1st quoted me $14500 to do the conversion but he priced in a 2 seater and 3 seater conversion. rang back and got someone a little bit nicer but still more expensive than polans. customer servce at polans was outstanding over the phone.
