Fly Trap.

Get a 2 litre or bigger plastic bottle.

On 1 side, cut 2 holes as big as your little finger approx 10mm from each side of bottle leaving a top flap. Keep the bottle lid shut.

If you cut only on 1 side you can more easily pour out the "Liquid Dead Flies" Read on!

Place some old meat or fatty scraps into bottle with some water.

The flies will smell the "Crap" and fly in, won’t be able to get out and will die.

Hang a few in trees around camp might help stop the Aussie salute :))

I am interested in this, but having some trouble understanding the instructions ...

"On 1 side, cut 2 holes as big as your little finger approx 10mm from each side of bottle leaving a top flap".

10 mm from each side .. do you mean 10mm apart, on the same side of the bottle?

Piccie might help.

Thanks
Jack

Can't post pic's not a member yet. found this in mag I think they mean you have to drill two holes 10 mm apart and cut across the bottom of the two holes and bend piece up to make flap one side of bottle.

there clear as mud

No success with it yesterday but I think that is because it hasn't started to stink enough yet to attract flies. I'll update further when the meat in it goes off.

Jim.

Gday,
You would have to make them out of 44 gallon drums and fill them to even notice a decrease in flies around here. hahahahaha

Cheers

Saw this on better homes and garden show. The only thing wrong is that the stench attracts virtually every fly in the district. Best to hang the traps up somewhere else be for you set up camp. About 2 Ks away....

I find a couple of well placed cow pats usually does the trick.
One on the end of your mates swag and another smeared under their camp chair.....doesnt help them much but keeps them out of my beer!

LOL

i actually paid a couple of bucks for some from bunnings - i use half a pilchard as bait and hang them under trees in the garden. they have made a massive difference to the amount of flies we get in the house. i didnt want to put on fly screens because it cuts down the breeze too much, but these things murder flies lol

I bought a couple of Envirosafe fly traps plus bait from Bunnings. About $10 for the trap and $9 for each pack of 3 x bait.
You mix one bait in half a cap of water in the trap, put the lid on, leave it in the sun, wait 24 hours for the bait to start working, and then stand back !
I have one trap with a 4-inch layer of dead flies in it, and the other about 2-inches. At this rate I will have to empty one trap very soon.
You can't smell them at all except if you swirl the trap around which I do every day or so to ensure the dead flies don't form a solid crust on the surface.
I live in inner-city Melbourne and had no idea just how many flies there are around my house.
Cheers.
Peter.

Back in the old country we used to make wasp traps. They used to be an old jam jar with some jam still in it, partially filled with water and a small hole punched in the lid. Works bute and costs nilch. Should work on flies as well and no smell
