Interesting BLOG - especially for me. In May last Year I bought a HZB30 Coaster that had been converted to 4WD.
Tour Boy is rght about 1 thing - the Rockwell transfer case IS noisy on road.
My Coaster was converted in Victoria in 2002, then went to Alice Springs as a tour bus.
We have converted it to a motorhome and intend using it for touring. Haven't done much yet and really haven't tested out the 4Wd capabilty.

Hi Samtom,
I'm glad you find it interesting.
I hope that you may be able to pick up some ideas from the build. I have just done another update to the blog.

I found that the SWB being about 4 foot shorter (half a bed) was a bit tight on space for a motorhome unless there is only two of you, so I will probably not build a shorty.
On the plus side the shorty will be more manouverable off road but to be realistic most will not be seriously rockhopping only outback touring with the odd Mitchell Plateau trip thrown in.
I would like to see some pics of yours in this thread if you can.

Cheers
Dave

Sorry,

I am only a visitor to the site (not a member) so I can't upload pictures, and that's why I can't talk to you on your blog either. Too many things to be a member of these days.

I had to engage a transport engineer to get my bus registered here in Qld - so your "build" job is quite something to me. I'd love to find out more about the singles you are putting on instead of the duals. Everyone has said that the singles perform better - especially in sand - but mine has come with duals. After the registration process I wasn't even daring to hope I could convert to singles one day.

Mine has a Donaldson Filter on the front bull bar with a snorkel inlet. With the raised suspension it sits about 1.5m above ground. Seems to operate very cleanly.

We are still working, so trips are quick affairs and not too frequent. Hoping to go the Central Australia in the middle of the year - and would like to see the Lambert Centre. If ayone has been there I'd love some info about the road trip in from Kulgera.
