A certain 4x4 National Mag has mentioned that the FJ Cruiser shall be released here in OZ in the late part of the year, has anyone had any experience with the FJ, driving, space restrictions, 4x4 ability etc. Apparently it will only be offered in Petrol form, CRAZY!, anyway any news would be appreciated, I would love to get one, but would be hesitant to buy Petrol only version, was thinking the new v8 diesel with a turbo would be the most appropriate engine, or even the old 4.2 turbo intercooled motor from 100 series would be great.
thanks in advance

I was under the impression that it was never going to be released here.
Cheers

I can't see why they would release it here. It would be in direct competition with their new updated Cruiser. Toyota Austalia already have every model variant so why would they introduce a new model?

Not sure if it would be in direct competition to the 200 series, from what I can see ont the web it would be competing against the likes of a defender and or jeep wrangler, interior is very camping/dirt friendly, the US model comes with sub woofer etc bla bla. Seems that is would be marketed for
young to middle aged users who what off road retro 4x4, but not wanting all the trimmings of a 200 series and or the basic approach of the 70 seires, not sure could be wrong just interested if anyone has driven one and what they thought.

It never ceases to amaze me how many Cruiser 100 series are petrol powered. I guess a lot of people do not want a diesel for various reasons. For around town use towing large boats or horse floats I guess the petrol may be the weapon of choice and at the moment Mr Toyota does not have one while Mt Nissan does. I'm a diesel man myself but to each his or her own.

They do in the LC200, but yeah, not in the 70's.

Isn't it built on a 4runner/Prado chassis? not much sense selling it here to compete with their own stablemate.

A swb/mwb diesel 70series would be a much better sales prospect than that FJ cruiser that manages to out-ugly even the latest offerings from toyssan and others.

Yeah I have driven it. It was fun to drive at first, but I quickly noticed flaws. Seats were
rock solid. I wouldn't want to be sitting in that car on a long cruise! Not solid as in supportive and firm, as in totally uncomfortable. Really bad blind spots due to the design, that I could live with. Power was adequate. It wasn't anything special. But I am not a Toyota fan anyway. I think I would prefer a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon if I had to choose between the two.
