Cape York Advice

The Cape York Ron Moon 12th edition is out in May, but too late for us as we are hoping (weather permitting) to be up there then. Can anyone recommend another good book, that would be more up to date then the Moon 11th edition. Or perhaps the 11th edition is fine still??
Thanks,Tim

11th edition will be fine and if you go on to the Moon's website - just google Ron & Viv Moon - any updates for the 12th edition will be on there site.
Great reference book.

my advice is wait and buy the new edition....because you have NO CHANCE of being up the Cape in May if you intend to drive. Perhaps your preparations for the journey should start with researching the weather conditions.......just a thought !

Whats wrong with May????????????????????????

Image Could Not Be Found

I would love to know cos i've been there twice now in May and had the best time possible and not as many people as there would be later in the season, maybe because they like you think it's too early, "Cods Wallop" (thats means Bull Shyte to non pommies)

May is a good time to go to Cape York and I would suggest that those that say "no" have not been in May.

Yes May is early in the season but that in it's self should not stop you, just use more care in the rivers re depth. Have FUN.

The info re the Cape in Rons 11th would be fine re what to see and do, but some of the contact info possibly may be out ouf date if at all

Cheers Colin.

Thanks for the May debate. I have had plenty of people say May is an ok time to travel , but as I said of course our plans are "weather permitting"
Cheers.

Slideshow of the Cape in MAY 2009, after the bypass was virtually all graded, all dry and opened to vehicles over 5T GVM

G'day,

The 11th edition is fine, I recently bought it and got it for half price because the new edition was coming out but also too late for me as I am also heading up the cape late May & June.

They told me the only changes are a few less pages mainly due to the weight of the book and postage costs. The main info content will be the same. Another good option is the Hema Cape York Map Atlas & Guide. I got mine from ARB, it was around $30 or I think but good info also.

Regarding thr, at the moment they say it's the driest wet for a while, still a chance of some big drops but looking good so far. This was from the cape york forum from some people that live on the cape.

Happy planning

Cheers
Ev
