The new Challenger with the 2.5L diesel, 400nm of torque, Double wishbone front end& rigid axle at the rear, make it a real threat to the others in the same
price range,as most of them are only soft roaders, It has a Hi / Low transfer case And can be used very efficientley as the motor dumps most of its torque below 1800 rpms, Not a sales pitch, just that my neighbour turned up with one to-day..LOL.very impressive machine IMHO.

Cheers Axle

Hi Axle, has one beside me at the lights today, must have been top of the range, had the alloys, all the bling, bloody nice looking vehicle, doesnt look as wide as the new prado ?? Great motor and diff lock available as well from the factory. Regards Steve

Yeah, it does look the goods Steve, esp considering that it is sort of pitched against Kluger and the like, as the Paj is there for Prado comparo.
Good clearance, approach, dep etc straight from stock, as well as rear diff lock std accross the range. This is a real bonus, considering the cost of after market susp & diff lock, and is really the only "real" off roader in its class I reckon (i.e chassis, low range, live rear end). If marketed right , it should theoretically be a sales bonanza for mitsi, and given mitsi resale a bit less than Toyo, it could be a damm good second hand buy down the track...
I will be keeping a close eye on these, as I will be looking to offload the ole 2000 3.0d lux next year, even tho it has just ticked over 100k (good truck, but power wise for a lap round Oz with kids etc, well.. you know....)

Cheers
Mark

Mark,

I don't believe it is pitched against the Kluger or others in that range like Mazda CX9 both of which are good soft roaders. The Challenger is a real off roader, not quite as serious as the Cruiser/Patrol and the like

It is an alternative to it's bigger brother in the Pajero, Prado and others like the Jeep Cherokee and Pathfinder. And, it only comes in diesel.

Considering the Mits 5 year warranty (or 10 with some twists) it's a pretty attractive proposition.

I've been looking for a car like interior in a Hilux or d24 and it looks like this might be it.
