4.3 VMS

Hi
Looking at buying a GPS unit and after much research have more less settled on the 4.3 VMS unit.

Thought I would go to the camping show and get a show special
$690 and would throw in a extra window mount and lead. Boy , what a deal !

I have seen them for around $650 with out bargaining in Geelong or Ballarat.

I am still able to be persuaded on something else .
A lot of the research was written last year so I was wandering what peoples thoughts were now on say the VMS and Hema.

An article in the 4WD mag didn't like R66 in the Hema. Thought the 4.3" in the VMS was better value than the 5" ??

We have hema road book maps and also have a VIC Roads map book . The vic roads one is far more detailed on road names etc. Are topographic maps as detailed on their country roads as the Vic roads maps or do they just show the topography more ? ( I hope I make sense )

I'm also ringing my hands over purchasing either the VMS 5in or the HEMA 5in ($990) big money heh! The Topo maps show a lot of detail relating map to ground.

Lachie, I have a 4.3 vms and have found it to be good. The street nav has so far been accurate. The screen size is suitable for me i could not justify the extra for the 5. The itopo maps i am only just learning but seems easy once you have watched the videos. We have travelled on a sorts of roads and had no trouble with the mount falling off the windscreen. I also have the two cameras (1 x on car, 1 x caravan) good investment if you tow.

Good luck in choosing theres heaps out there.

I have the 5" VMS, couldnt be happier.
The only thing I grizzle about is the 250 tho Natmaps. They are 2 to3 years behind when you get them off the shelf. ie, the 2009 maps are actually the '06, '07 maps. These days with all the technology why does it take so long to produce them?
