Hi We came home that way in August 08, took 5 days. Very nice country, very large corrugations all the way. The only way to go is slow!! We waited all day at Ilkulka for fuel as they were away at the community, but we were lucky as they had been away a week. It pays to ring ahead and let them know when you are passing so you know they will be there. We towed a camper trailer and even though we were careful we still had a few minor problems due to the constant rattling. Lost a trailer shockie and a second battery holder as well as collapsing the insides of our starting battery, which held on till Kal and then died.
All in all not too bad but we were glad to get off the corrugations and onto better surfaces, but we would do it all again just for the country!!!
It's a great land. Enjoy it!

More like the CSR as the scrub can close in right to the edge of the wheeltracks in some spots. dunes are more like ripples in the landscape than dunes as such, usually pretty firm and usually heavily corrugated as well as being covered in thick bush.

There are very few sandhills to cross as most of the time you run between them. One thing to watch for is the native poplars which the camels bite off and leave lying on the track. They have a straight trunk with little branches that stick out like pencils and they are as hard as steel. If you hit one with a tyre it sill cause a puncture, so dont run over them if possible. We had one of these but managed to fill it with a plug and the tyre held up till home.

John, it is quite an easy track.
This slideshow has some pics from Nulabor - Cook - Vokes Hill - Laverton in 2006.

There are some scratchy bits and the corrugations are less as you go west. The sand is no drama at all.
Pretty country.

Cheers,
Peter

can only speak for the WA side but did 4 trips out there last year and apart from some corrogations it is easy travelling. Did the full length a couple of years ago and wouldn't compare the dunes to CSR or Simpson. they are small and most of the time you travel in the dune valley. great trip though.
