Hi Folks, Can anyone tell me what the Bloomfield track is like nowadays , we anticipate going to Cooktown in August , years ago the Bloomfield track was a bit of a graveyard for 4WD vehicles , but have not been that way for well over 20+ years so presumeably things have changed somewhat , just like to know what we could anticipate in regards to road conditions .

Its a highway now :-) Lots of sections of bitumen here and there - widened here and there - lots of gravel etc.

You will have no issues in August

The only other comment I'd add is that it is steep in sections which means go careful if towing anything with weight. We came down from Cooktown last year and our trailer is well over 1 tonne fully loaded so needed plenty of grunt to get safely up some sections
