G,Day all I'm going to Lithgow for work (about 4w/k's) and will have the w/k end's off so I'm looking for places to go on the days off. I have 4x4 with recovery gear-tent and camper trailer, would love to hear from you.
Thanks for your replies

Yes Matt, I work at Vales Pt Power Station on the Central Coast and we often do outages in Lithgow and (maybe) will in April through September be in Karatha for an overhaul of 3 Turbines at Cape Lambert which powers Rio Tinto's ore plant and loader

Hi Tony,

In 4 weeks I will be competing in the Australian 4 day enduro at Sunny Corner. It is Australia's most prestigious off road race event with some of the best riders in the world competing and would be worth a visit...but not everyones cup of tea.
So unless you are into trailbikes, noise and dust, you may want to steer clear of Portland and and Sunny Corner, It will be absolutely packed and also most accommodation in Lithgow has been booked to the riders and teams, Im having to stay at Bathurst cause everything is booked out.

Cheers

Thanks PradOz & ingo Been out through Sunny Corner, Dark Corner also done Mudgee- Sofala- Hill End- Bathurst- Oberon and back through Jenolan Caves a few years ago now may do it again as we loved the seclusion of the back roads and tracks around Sofala & Hill End
I think we will stay clear of Sunny Corner when the enduro's on, I may be back home by then. thanks ingo

If you want some harder stuff, up around Mount Walker at the back of Lake Lyell is pretty good.

The Turon River National Park is a great quite spot and if you like you can drive down to Sunny Corner from there.

The spanish steps, (sunnyside track) off the blackfellows hand trail. Ask Corey at lithgow mowers near maccas if it is open and how to get there. It is a real 4wd track due to the rock shelves.

If you go to the glowworm tunnel, walk thru and turn to the left and follow the canyon back up to the walking trail rather than going back thru the tunnel. Most people don't know about the narrow canyon. If there has been rain don't bother with the canyon.

Cheers

Spanish Steps is leased from State Forests by NSW&ACT 4WD and is available to clubs with keyed access. The clubs try to maintain this track but unfortunately the gates and fences keep getting ripped down and the track damaged so it becomes badly rutted and washed out. As said plenty of other stuff in the area.

On 17 April the Carnet Auctions Rally of Lithgow takes off on a 142km trail through nearby state forests. There is a ceremonial start in the main street of Lithgow. So maybe you can jump in the queue and follow them ;)
