Hi everyone i am home from Tasmania, spent nearly 5 months looking around, heading to
Flinders ranges beginning of may spend all may in the
Flinders ranges, then the plan is to head up through the centre via Stuart highway visiting Alice, kings canyon,
Darwin,
Broome and down through western australia back to south australia, need to know about seasons such as wet season, and the hottest parts to avoid if possible, my rig is a 2009 Prado Diesel D4D towing a 14.2 model Jaco Expanda outback, any suggestions would be greatfully appreciated. uptotenyearsroundoz

mervyn,
You don't say how long you will be away for but it sounds to me that you are setting off at about the right time, possibly a bit late but not too bad.
Autumn in the top end of SA is lovelly. The savage heat is gone from the days and the nights are usually cool, making sleep easier to come by.
Winter in the centre will be OK for travelling. You will get warm days but not all of them. Walks like Kings Canyon will be more enjoyable when you are not fighting against the heat. Also winter in
Darwin, so I'm told, is pretty
well perfect. Warm and dry not hot and humid. Haven't been there yet so I don't know for sure but that's the reports I get back from those who have been there in winter.
Spring on the west coast could be windy but the
wildflowers down the north coast of WA will be fantastic. We were there in October and had a very uncomfortable night because of the wind in
Kalbarri. It was warm enough to swim at
Shark Bay but not at
Esperance.
We got pushed home by a howling gale across the Nullarbor.

No worries at that time of the year. Wet season sort of starts around November, but plenty hot in Oct.
Beautiful weather May June July Aug, Sept. You would want to be south of say
Carnarvon by Late Oct. Wild flowers are great south of
Broome around Late Aug Sept.
There's a few who reckon the wet is great but no fun for me. Normally runs Nov through to April or thereabouts.

May to July, that's a little short? You could go as late as August/September and it is till OK
Go to the BOM website and it gives you the average min and max temps for the year. Just select the regiion.

Note that, in the Centre in the winter months, although the days can be very pleasant, the nights can get to freezing, or even below. Sometimes in June and July, there can be chilly winds in the daytime, too.
