The X man
Anybody know how to get remove the original radio from a 1983 toyota hiace so I can replace with new cd/tuner? I'm hoping that I wont have to remove half the dashboard but its not looking to good at the moment.
Thanks

Hi X man, can't help you directly but there have been links posted on this
forum for downloadable service manuals (do a
forum search over about a year), and there are be other web sites you can google for the manuals.
I can say I've just down this swap in a recent Hilux, and it was a pain because the space left after removal of the old CD/radio was not quite wide enough for a modern standard DIN sized CD/tuner. Also there was no way to secure the back of the new tuner. I hope you have better luck.
Cheers,
John

Why don't you make a bracket and mount it under the dash...might be more inconspicuous down there. Or in the glovebox

the last one that looked like a nightmare to remove had its internals removed and then peeled the case and remaining bits out. some of the early commodores i saw have stereos replaced were removed with a custom made chisel and mash hammer.
