Has anyone bought the new Challenger and if so, how have you found it ?? any complaints ??

Have found it to be the only 4x4 wagon type thing below 50 grand that would suit me.......lift up tailgate ( shame on you Prado !! ).....ladder chassis....low range......rear diff lock....rides very well ( off road as well )....5 year warranty...

Have I missed something ?? whats wrong with it ??.....not interested in brand name loyalty stuff.......

They have mostly the same mechanicals as the Triton and I have one of those.

Super Truck, power, economy, great tow vehicle.

What more could you ask, I'll probably go for a challenger next.

Here in Perth , it appears that demand outweighs supply, and I have been waiting for nearly three week,s from three different dealers to get my hand on one to take it for a drive. Its a great looking vehicle and fills a much needed gap in the medium size 4x4 market. Prados, in all variants are way out of my league, and the challenger fits the bill nicely. Just hope the test drive isn't a let down. I hope they bring out the V6 petrol model ( not really a diesel fanatic due to past bad experiences ) but that's not to say the diesel model bad . In fact its figures are very close to the D4D Prado, but not paying $60,000+ for a vehicle that the Challenger can match .

Hi,
We have a relative who use to be a truckie, driving long hauls all over Australia. He has been very impressed with the towing of the challenger with his caravan ( sorry don't know make , model of van, but it's a typical caravan ie not off road, not poptop etc). He is planning to upgrade to the new model challenger now that they are available. Reckons the challenger is an excellent car and gives excellent value for money and handles hills when towing very well. Fuel economy good too. Hope this helps, Will be keen to see what you think of your test drive, and if you go ahead with purchase, how you find the towing, fuel and general handling of the challenger. Cheers.

I have a Terracan at present and have found it to be almost as nice as a Prado to drive ( 06 model , not the latest ones ), but the challenger seems to drive better than my Terracan, and certainly nicer than the Triton ( drove both today )...

Bit of turbo lag in the manual, but when on boost, it goes like a rocket ( well, almost )

Just curious why you particularly want a lift-up tailgate? IMHO, the best place for the spare is on the back door (I don't want to be crawling around in the mud under the back of the car when I need it, and I don't want it taking up heaps of space in the floor of the load area either) - it's difficult (or impossible) to have a rear-mount spare with a hatchback (unless you have a swing-away carrier like the old Sportage - which is just another thing to open/close).
