HI everyone,

I know I ask lots of questions, sorry.

I have found a troopy and will be looking at it tomorrow in detail.

2005 model. 8 seater

I don't know if it's HD or HZ.

If there any differents to look for?
And I see things like 1HZ, What is that.

Thanks in advance

Nat

The HZJ78 has a 1HZ non turbo engine with a R series gearbox
The HDJ78 has a 1HDFTE turbo engine with the heavier H series gearbox

The HDJ78 is the better vehicle of the two particually if you want to tow with it

Nat,

Further to the posts above, I would strongly recommend yo get someone to help you choose a vehicle who knows a fair bit about troopys.

From your post, it would appear that it may be your first 'heavy duty' 4WD. There are many people on this forum with a great deal of knowledge about the troopys and other Landcruisers and most are more than happy to help out.

Can you give us a little info as to what you're plans are for the vehicle? This should give us a bit more to go on in regards to advising yous which of the 'versions' of troopys would be most suitable.

As an example I have a landcruiser wagon with the 1HZ and do a little towing and whilst it is a little slow up the hills, it is adequate for the job. I would prefer a turbo version, but at more than $20k extra, I can put up with the lack of power.

Cheers,

Mark

Thank you Mark,

We are a family of 7, and have found that the landcruisers (80 series etc) don't have enough leg room,

We go camping, tow a standard trailer sometimes. It will be my city car too.

Is there a month/year that the HDJ started?

Thanks

Nat,
I think Mark summed the difference up nicely in his last sentence. The HDJ78 has been the pick of the troopies over the years, and is hard to get hold of.

Released in late 2001 and stopped making them in Dec 2006. During this time you could also get the HZJ78.

Redbook specs:
Factory TD HDJ78
Normally aspirated HZJ78.

We were a family of 6 and used a troopie for many years too. I'd guess you are looking at the 11 seater. If the one you are looking at has 8 seats, they must be aftermarket.

Cheers
phil

If it is an 8 seater I'll bet it is an ex-miner. It will have a 1HZ.
