Has anyone driven the
Holland track recently. Is the track overgrown. We want to take an offroad caravan. I've been told I wont get through.
Regards Don

hi don (wa)
you would be taking a big risk with a off road caravan as there are a lot off rather solid trees close to the track and and some tight turns amongst them if your van is wide and high?
i was on a trip through there and one of our group had a ute mounted caravan and it was'nt an overly large rig
but he ripped the roll/up awning off on one tree on one side
and then i bit later along the way put a large dent in the front corner of the van on another tree while trying to sqeeze between some trees
because the trees go in a low rain fall area they are as tough as steel and dont give if you strike them with you vehicle or van
camper trailers providing they are not too wide will go through ok with care
but imho i would'nt take a large off rd caravan through there but then others may give you a different view point on this
cheers and good luck

Hello Don,
Check with the Toyota 4 Wheel Drive Club as they have taken it upon themselves to keep the track in good repair and can give you up to date reports. I went through two years back and it was burnt out for the last 500kms. I'd imagine she'd be regrown by now and pretty shrubby again. There are some early hurdles that I think you'll have trouble with but after that, and if you are experienced with all recovery gear, slowly, slowly and you should be right. Just have a
plan B. Cheers, Cash.

Pretty scratchy in some areas, so some cosmetic damage must be expected.
A couple of pics in this slide show....
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Don
I travelled from Victoria Rocks Road to the Bounty
mine site over the Australia day weekend with a group of 6 vehicles one was towing a
Kimberley CT and I was towing a Club Spacevan CT with extended draw bar. I found the going a little tight in some areas but apart from some character lines on side of triailer and the Patrol we had no real trouble. We encountered some water on the track but taking it easy were able to do it.

What width is your caravan and tow vehicle Don?
We set out to explore the region in 2007 with our F250, leaving the caravan at
home. After visiting an EO member who had been through the week before, we were still undecided due to our added width and scratching our new vehicle which would occur. We started at
Broomehill from where rural roads roughly trace the original route. Just before the
Norseman Hyden Road, we went through a narrow thicket of brush and got a lot of scratches, although this section could be bypassed on other rural roads. We chickened out at this point at did not go further north along the HC.
We still had a nice drive on the
Norseman-
Hyden Road, camping at
the Breakaways, and heading north along the
Victoria Rock Road. The Woodlines area near here was the most interesting part of this trip. We went back along the
Holland Track from near
Victoria Rock through the very 'winding around the trees' woodland area (would be extremely difficult with long caravan) to
Thursday Rock, then followed a 'cut line' due north to the
Perth - Kalgoorlie Highway. We probably got more scratched there than if we had followed the whole track! On our return journey we intersected the track at Mt Holland and it was wide and easy in both directions at this point.
If you do a search, you will read a report from "Captain" who virtually wrecked the exterior of his caravan on the
Holland Track.
Lots of interesting stuff to see if you do a loop to pick up the caravan again. I have a very brief blog on the trip in MyBlog section.

Take the emu fence road from
Hyden to yellowdine and then on to
coolgardie and from there to
Burra rock where you can daytrip the
woodlands and some of the HT
Alternativly head through to
Norseman from
Hyden and then take the new road from Widgiemooltha to
Cave hill where you can daytrip the woodlines and some of the HT
captains write up would certainly put you off towing the HT with a full size CV
very little of the goldfields is suitabl for oversize vehiclesof any kind

Hi Don
We covered the track a few years back. I did read some place that it is prefered if people did not take trailers through . The Toyota Club has put a lot of work in, so i would respect that and TENT it Enjoy your trip

Have travelled the HT several times. A camper trailer would be ok but would not recommend a caravan. some tight windy sections which would do damage.
