Hi

We need a new tow hitch (towbar) and 750ib Hayman Resse weight distribution hitch

does anyone have a ball park price - we are at Caboolture QLD with cracked Toyota towbar on 79 series LC.

Crack can be repaired and replated to strengthen but looking to convert to Hayman Reese from a Reece system which has a lot of overhang (distance from towbar to ball) and this looks like the cause of the cracking given that all weights are within advertised limits.

Cheers Baz

Can't help with towbar price Barry but re the 750 HR WDH kit - bought one in Adelaide 12 months back for $690 - all the quotes I accessed were within a few $ of that figure. All fine to date - easy enough to setup and maintain - and, that WDH kit weighs 30kg ! Glad you found the crack before having to deal with any drama.

Hi Baz, we had a Hayman Reese tow bar fail a few years ago out at Cobar here in New South. An engineering business out there assured me they could re weld it so that it would never fail again.......... BUT for liability reasons they would not touch it. So we had to wait for a new one to be sent from Newcastle.

Hayman Reese guarantee their equipment for life, so we got our money back for the cost of the new one including freight & fitting. (eventually!!) Plus cost of damage to our van etc.

You can overcome some of the overhang problem by fully inserting the piece that has the ball attached fully home & then drilling the receiver to suit. Hayman Reese approve of this being done. Good luck with it.

Thanks for replies all.

Yes will try them Caz thanks I know where they are.

The Reece we have can't be drilled so good to hear we can drill the HR to suit - thanks Barry.

Up for over $1000 by the sounds of it.

Oh well we were only going up to Emerald and Clermont and those places will be very wet omorrow it seems with Ului about to cross the coast.

Thanks again Baz

Hi Barry,
From my discussions with H/R they don't approve of any modifications. If you want warranty etc check first. PYA.
Regards Mike.

Try Caboolture Caravan repairs Strathvale cr round near the bridge off Beerberrum road www.caravanrepair.com.au

I got a 750 there for under $600 was a while ago but prices havent risen much

You can modify them to the extent of drilling another hole and shortening the tongue provided you leave 50mm between the holes.

You also have to round the corners with a angle grinder to fit in some receivers

To Jo the weight of the bars is stamped into each one like 550 750

750's are 1 1/8 in bars

Cheers
