Cookie & Di,
Ray has a point. I lived there for 4 years and people had a couple of attempts on my own vehicle and work utes.
However in Wedgefield (an Industrial estate between Port and South Hedland)
there is a storage depot there. I had a mate use it but not sure if the sheds are adequate for a caravan.
If I was up there now I would find out for you!! Don't think I'll be there for a bit. Sorry don't have details of that storage company.
But I might ring around for you and get details... If I remember!!!

If your
home is where you park it and you intend doing specific sites throughout the in land
Pilbara, why not leave your van in
Newman.
There are two
well serviced caravan parks in
Newman, the "Kalgans Rest" caravan park off Kalgan Drive is able to store you caravan in an un~secured
parking area.
You also intend on doing the "Circuit" around
Newman ~ this I take to be the
waterhole circuit ~ the so called
waterhole circuit does not exist as it did some years ago, before wholesale mining operations changed and continue to change access to various
places of interest. If you are curious about the interest any of the mining and exploration drilling companies may show in a remote
waterhole, they simply pump the water out, into their water carts (trucks) and wet their mining operations tracks down or they use the water for their drilling operations.
The
Newman Visitor Centre may have local ~ mud maps ~ but I know that these are re-productions of what was an in correct map made back in 2001 by a non resident school teacher. The landscape and tracks have changed markedly since 2001, but these maps have not, even the "U" beaut Hema map of the
Pilbara is inaccurate.
This reply is not ment to put you off in any way, just be aware of the changes and the ongoing misinformation about the outback ~ especially the
Pilbara.

Thankyou very much for all the information. We were in
Newman last September on limited time so hope to fill in on the rest later this year.
