Bruce,
For excellent sensitivity and overall performance, suggest
check out the Degen DE1103.
It will tune from 100 kHz to 30 MHz in 1 khz steps, AM,FM and SSB. Has the usual AM and FM bands too.
Try a search of this
forum for more details. They cost around $100 - 150.
Highly recommended.

How good is the Degen in receiving AM radio, I have tried several sets including Sangean & none are as good as our 40 year old Panasonic transistor radio!

Shaker,
Ihave had no problem recieving AM on the Degen radio and the reception is as good as I have had with other small radios. The only thing with the degen is the
unusual method of changing volume but you soon get used to it, otherwise it is an excellent radio for the price.

Hi
Try Dick Smith Electronics or Jaycar electronics shops. They usually sell them

Site LinkNothing better than a durable radio that has everything. I'd recommend the Dewalt DC010-XE for $149.
