Ok everyone, I needed the lift, so I went with the Lovells Springs, Bilstein Shockies and Polyairs which seems to get good reviews, so money well spent. Now I was wondering about upgrading my tyres. I have a 2003 Prado GX turbo diesel which is flareless and runs the skinnier tyres, and I want to put on the wider tyres (Light Truck)/alloy rims (after market) such as the GXL and above have. That presents some possible issues, such as: Are they legal? Would they be legal if I fit those rubber flares that stick out from under the wheel arch? Do I contact the RTA for assistance? I'm insured with BudgetDirect and would have to contact them as well, I guess. Anyone with any advice and/or solutions please apply here!

Have a look on the tyre placard placed on the vehicle and see if it has both sizes marked on it like the 105 series cruisers do. If so then no one should complain.

Blue,

You can go to any size on the tyre placard for your vehicle, or in the drivers manual.
If you can't find it there try the RTA web site Click here and insert toyota then landcruiser you will need to find your vehicle model and the Vehicle Descriptor Information sheet will tell you what wheel and tyre size you can have.

Many people will go a size larger. EG. 265/70R16 becomes 265/75R16 or more. Make sure you tell your insurance company.

I think you'll find that the common Prado upgrade, the LT265/70R 17 tyre, does not conform with RTA rules - this tyre is about 25mm taller than standard, and the RTA (You'd better check this!) only allows you to go 15mm taller.

Members on this site (Anthony?) use the LT 245/70R 17 - check a tyre size guide as I think that one would be "legal" in NSW.

Have you had a look over at Pradopoint.com?
