Same here with the C/T.
Looping along at about 80km/hr on good tracks we get better consumption than at 100 on the highway. Even with lower tyre pressures.
Found the same when we crossed Plenty many years ago. Most of it was good 2 lane dirt road.
Didn't need to refuel between
Boulia and Alice, but then we had 135l main and 70l sub tank. :o)
Sub tank is gone, but we carry a couple of jerries on the CT for 1300km range.
Jervois station still doing fuel? Friend filled up there who only had a 90l standard tank.
