Yep, they're even too flimsy to use as a table while folded down. When we had one we used it as a linen press and just stuck our hand inside the door when we opened it to stop everything falling out. That worked until the hinges pulled out. Then we threw it away.

our wind-up (not a Penguin) normally would have one but we got them to remove it and make the bench longer.

Yep, completely useless. We removed it and put a square of 7 ply attached to the hinge. Covered a square block of foam, two strips of velcro on foam and glued 2 strips of velcro on ply. Extra seat and not so squeezy beside the stove when cooking. Made getting to the other storage areas easier too.

I fitted removable shelves in mine. 5 from memory. I fitted a timber support on each side and back glued in place. Across the front i used 20mm x 20mm aluminium angle. I cut out from 1 face at each end enough to allow it to sit on the side supports. That way i can move the angle to gain access to a shelf, or completely remove a shelf if i want to. Also makes it easier to put each ply shelf in there. I havent nailed ply down. When you fold cupboard down it tends to keep the angle in place. I rarely have it moved enough to dismantle the contents. If you travel really rough tracks you may want to screw it down to secure and it could be removable by removing screw if you want to. At the bottom i just sat a piece of ply to cover the deep base section. I ended up with a concealed box at the bottom of the robe so when you put some clothes etc on top it covers up that you have a hidden storage area there. Handy to 'secure' things away from view. I have a full oven in my Swan and have always thought about lifting my robe to place a microwave space below it. Would mean i either have to come up with a drop down hinge to lower the robe onto its normal position when its folded up or manually lifting it up/down. One day.... My brother uses his robe as a pantry with shelves in his. My other brother got rid of his and has a full length bench top. Have fun....

I removed mine, disassembled it, and cut it down so that with the top back on it was exactly the same height as the bench. Then I screwed it down (without the hinges).

We used it for storing the kettle and coffee things, and used the top for making coffee etc.

Cut down, it was very useful indeed.
